how do I set up a paid downloads on the cheap.

Hello Warriors,

I have several PDF files I would like to sell through download links. I want to know if I can use Word Press as the engine and what the best way to set up the payment and download scheme.

I'm not looking for a membership site, just a place where someone can use PayPal to pay and download a PDF file.

After playing with Word Press a bit, I thought it would be an easy way to create a site. If I do a site map, will I need to do anything special so prevent the download pages from being indexed?

Any other advice?

I'll be interested to to see how people reply. We developed a script that does this, but haven't really marketed it yet (Home : phpLD Shop). It is a shopping cart script that does digital downloads. But I'm sure there are other good options available, I look forward to seeing the replies you get.

Interesting, so $60/year. We could easily offer a product that is a low one-time fee that beats that. Any other good ones?

E-junkie is definitely the best cheap option for downloads! Before I got DLGuard I used them exclusively.

payloadz is free up to a limit, ejunkie has more custom features, free or paid vs the payloadz - and you can do the ppal /download from your site thing too no extra charge and can be done w/ gckout or alertpay too

Great, well I may need to make my first WSO for my product, as we may not have all those features (yet), but definitely beat them in terms of price.

I have several of the phpld paid scripts. Jewelry and metaphysical niches. I love the way the script work and always thought that the payment portion would be a nice stand alone for use on other sites. What can you do for a Warrior who has purchased the script 5 times? I smell a WSO coming through

P.S. The Shopping Cart script you are talking about would not be a part of the new 3.4 upgrade of the standard phpld script would it?

WordPress is almost certainly the easiest way to go with this. Download the WP e-Commerce plugin. It's free and enables you to operate a PayPal commerce site in WordPress. You can adjust settings from your WordPress Dashboard. PayPal can direct your buyers to the download.

Why not try the $7 secrets script?....

It's cheap, easy to setup and protects your download link.

For a more advanced and powerful setup, I would recommend RAP over $7 secrets..I've got both and they are great scripts

I like eJunkie. I've got about 60 products there right now.

If you want to go really cheap, get the $7 Secret script. It works well too but has some limitations.

I'll second using wordpress for digital downloads. I'm recently built a site where users can do a one time purchase and download a wordpress plugin that i developed and utilized a great plugin called eshop. VERY intuitive to use and feature packed.

You can have a free copy of phpLD Shop to try out, and then you can let me know if there are any features that we could add to the next version that fellow warriors would appreciate.

Interesting... I was looking for the same, but not finding the solution in estore. Wanted a single 'buy now' button linking straight to Paypal instead of 'add to cart', which must be followed by several more clicks just to go to Paypal processing.
