$599 for Photoshop at Amazon? Nah, get it here FREE

I'm not a professional graphics designer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Adobe Photoshop seems to be the standard that all the graphics professionals use for their image and graphics creation and editing needs. Certainly Gimp and PS Elements will handle .psd files, but they don't offer the advanced features that really set Photoshop apart.

Right now, you can get your own copy of Photoshop CS2 for Windows or MAC at zero cost. Granted, this is not the latest version of PS (CS6) and I think Adobe is moving toward their cloud based model where you pay a monthly fee to access their software.

But CS2 is still Photoshop and it is very powerful (and there is no monthly fee to pay with your own software program). Here is the download link:

Adobe Photoshop CS2

Take notice of the Windows or MAC serial numbers you'll need below the download button. Copy them for later use in running the software.

You might be concerned about the PS learning curve. There is one, but there are also tons of "how to" resources online that will walk you through most Photoshop (PS) functions. YouTube has thousands of video tutorials on PS.

Here are some good free PS CS2 tutorials on Vimeo:

If you've ever wanted Photoshop but couldn't afford to purchase it, now is the time. Take action and stay thirsty my friends.

This is amazing, thanks for the share. I can barely get my head around Gimp, but at some point it will probably be beneficial to start using Photoshop.

I think it's supposed to be humor, based on a series of ads by the chain showing people doing things like flying helicopters and doing surgery. The tag line is "I'm not a _________________, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night."

Once again, the point is brought home that humor is in the eye of the beholder. John, at least you explained my case so that I didn't have to. Thanks for the save. At the time, it seemed like an appropriate thing to say since I'm not a Photoshop expert.

CS2 doesn't even compare to the newer versions. It's more than worth $20 a month to get the latest version or $600 if you want to pay one time.

Steve, not trying to take anything away from you but I use to use a similar link in my sigs in the forum. Below you will see, it contains all the cs2 software.

I saw someone posted cs2 doesn't even compare, it does when these people can't afford 20 bucks a month, it compares alot.

I think it's not totally free, according to Adobe's scientist Dove Isaacs clarifies:
You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!
What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available

Yeah, I've been using GIMP for years to edit and manipulate images for my professional graphic design purpose. It's a great software for image manipulation totally free and as alternative to Photoshop, can be compared in many functions and features as well as photoshop does

You can find there are so many tutorials on youtube how to operate GIMP like a pro

In starting this thread, my only intention was to share what I thought was a great deal on an expensive piece of software. It seemed like a logical move to me, given the fact that Adobe is moving to a paid monthly fee for their software.

I visit Techspot.com often and came across the free download offer. Yes it has been available for awhile. I did not know that others had already alerted the forum about CS2 being free and available. Even so, there are others new to this forum that I feel could benefit from having Photoshop.

On the Techspot site I read:
"Adobe has released this legacy version of the ever popular Photoshop as freeware. Download and enjoy."
There is a download button and activation codes for both PC and Mac.

Was there anything there that made me wonder if the offer wasn't really free? No, nothing.

Other very popular sites like Techspot including Gizmodo, Softonic, DigitalTrends and SnapFiles and many more are offering the download link and activation code.

This is from the Adobe site: "As of December 15th the activation servers for these products will be shut down." CS2 is one of the products listed.

I'm not really sure whether Adobe intended CS2 to be freeware. They could easily stop the free use by simply banning the activation codes that are being used by those who don't purchase the software.

Instead, my guess is, Adobe is happy to allow download of CS2 until Dec. 15th in the hope that new users who otherwise couldn't afford their software will, at some point, upgrade to their new monthly fee model.

I already own CS5, but I would say that if you want Photoshop you probably have until December 15th to get CS2. After that, it will be a monthly fee to use it.

Well I have cs6 on my main I think that will last me a couple of years then I will learn one of the other free ones or paid ones you don't have to have a subscription too.

Adobe just makes it so simple to change the dll's to get it to work I am sure they lose alot of money. As long as we have computer geeks though we will have pirates.

Mine main desktop win 7 computer power supply died yesterday and I was on my older XP computer until I replaced the power supply. This CS2 will be an nice addition to the XP in times of "trouble". I have CS5 on this computer. Had I been on the other computer longer, I would have been without Photoshop.
    Thanks for the link.

Here is the original download link: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitl...=cs2_downloads

But the most important thing: Photoshop CS 2 is NOT FREEWARE. Read the official Statement from Adobe:

Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 products, including Acrobat 7, because of a technical issue. These products were released more than seven years ago, do not run on many modern operating systems, and are no longer supported.
Adobe strongly advises against running unsupported and outdated software. The serial numbers provided as a part of the download may only be used by customers who legitimately purchased CS2 or Acrobat 7 and need to maintain their current use of these products.
So it's still piracy to download and use it if you are not the customers who legitimately purchased CS2.

    Just FYI.

It does mean that you have broken the license agreement with Adobe (you are using one of its products illegally).

      Here's an FYI for you...

The bit you highlighted in red was added after the initial announcement. The idea of getting deprecated versions of very expensive software spread virally and brought Adobe's servers to their knees. Sites like the one Steve linked were sending millions of people, all at once.

It took me three days just to see the download page. The second time I got in, Adobe added their notice about the software being only for paid users of the original.
