How to drive traffic on my blog?

Hi people. Recently (10 days ago), I started building my first blog. I really like designing stuff, so I pick a WordPress, instal new Twenty Thirteen theme and do a nice design. I have no problems about designing, and I never had one. I have problems with driving traffic to my blog. I know it is still early to talk about bigger traffic because I start working on my blog 10 days ago, but I'm receiving only about 15-30 visitors a day. In the next two months I would like to have arround 500-1000 visitors to my website in one day. Is that possible? I know everything depends how much I work but still I don't know how to do that.

I start promoting my blog on Twitter (I have about 2000 twitter followers), but I'm getting low traffic. Two days ago I start using Facebook also, but since I only receive few likes, I guess I can't expect some big traffic from this network. I'm trying to expand my social profiles using JustRetweet and EmpireAvenue. I found them very useful.
I'm writting my own articles (I guess that is better for SEO), I'm using best wordpress plugins (for SEO and other), so should I expect some organic traffic from Search Engines soon?
From Social Bookmarking sites I use Reddit and Digg, I also start Forum Marketing (Warrior Forum, SitePoint, Wicked Fire, and Digital Point from today). I bookmark few best blogs in my niche and start doing blog commenting on them.

That is well everything I'm doing to get traffic
What should I expect? What should I start using that I didn't? Why? How to use it? If anyone have some good tips, I would appreciate help.

Good call. Getting some solid guest blogging in would be good, too. Find 2-3 reputable sites and write for them weekly or monthly to build your rep and your own audience - many of us got our starts with that grind, and if you do it right it's a serious asset that lasts.

Your free marketing campaign is fine, but i think you will be more content with your results if you did paid advertising (and alot of it), so that it could build up your blog traffic, blog subscribers, and eventually sales/commissions.

    All of the above!

Also, if you want to use fb more, you can go to fiverr.com and buy fb likes for $5, but do a little research on the people selling them before you buy to make sure they are giving real likes from real accounts. Anything more that 100 for $5 I'd be suspicious. As you build up your likes you can post your blog posts on your page and the people who have liked your page will see them.

StumbleUpon is another good platform to use.

Do you have a list? If so, do some blog broadcasts and you will soon find people from your list will also start subscribing to your blog

IMO, OP can try FB Ads instead of buying likes from Fiverr. Most of the time seller will supply all the fake likes.

There are dozens of unique ways to drive traffic, other people in this thread have listed some of those options. Social media marketing is definitely a good way to go, don't give up on Twitter by the way! Keep setting up profiles for your blog on as many social networks as possible, and make sure to keep adding quality content to your blog. Ads are a good way to drive traffic too if you're willing to invest a little money.

There are several methods you can use when promoting your site. Some are...

    - Forums
    - Blog commenting
    - Guest posting
    - Writing articles
    - SEO
    - Creating newsletters
    - Social Bookmarking
    - Blogging
    - Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest)

The trick is to pick 2 methods you believe you would enjoy doing then stick to only those methods. Once you see results move to to 2 new methods.

After you have tried every method discard the ones that are not producing results - and focus on the ones that are.

Forget about driving traffic for now.

    1. Get QUALITY content on your blog.
    2. Make it look half decent.
    3. Make it easy to navigate.
    4. Get social profiles and branding set up.

THEN, and ONLY then, should you start driving traffic. It is absolutely pointless driving visitors to a place that is only half finished, because all that effort would be wasted when they see a half finished site with hardly any content on and then click the back button.

I have about 55 published posts on my blog, and I have done very little SEo apart from SEO that is on page.

I know most of the times, we usually focus on getting visitors to our blog first. However, the real ingredient needed, is not to go chasing visitors - go after bloggers! And, the reason I say this is, bloggers hang out in networks such as blogengage and justretweet to name a few of the most popular ones. Start engaging with these bloggers, the good thing is - these networks are built specifically for sharing each others content. Once you start sharing their content, they will in-turn do the same, and that starts building the relationship.

Now, you want to start approaching these bloggers about doing a guest post for them, and as long as they like your content, and it's a fit for their audience, they will publish your guest post on their blog. The good thing about guest post is you get to share your content on another already popular and high trafficked blog with a linkback to just about any content you want, specifically your blog. As your audience and influence start growing, so will your traffic. They also throw their influence your way as they introduce you to their readers.

And keep in mind, you don't need 100k readers to have a great blog, just a few 100+ loyal readers that loyally share your post can really push your traffic in the big numbers. If you have the right viral sharing plugins, that will keep the momemtum going and allow you to build your email list one time. I actually wrote a post specifically about one of the networks I mentioned above where you can get to know and interact with a good community of bloggers here.

True. Build your blog first and the audience will follow. Building a good blog takes time. It's not just about stuffing content in there. It's about interacting with your readers, reaching out to new readers, encouraging discourse to create new content, etc. You should also try to make sure that have evergreen content so it stays relevant (and can be reposted) for a long time.

Driving traffic to your blog through social media becomes easier when there's enough content in your blog that's worth sharing.

The first thing is - DO NOT buy Facebook likes. You will get more traffic from Facebook if you have 100 genuine likes than you would get from 1k bought likes. Bought likes are not targeted. Those people sitting in your FB page don't care about what you're writing about.

The second - As someone up there said, make it look half decent. You are doing good by writing articles yourself. Make sure to add them regularly and you will get to increase visits slowly. Since you are already writing the articles you should get some on-site done there. Add 'alt' image tags inside those images and make sure to have a keyword in your article's title, h1 and/or h2 tags and sprinkled naturally throughout the article.

The third advice - try guest posting. Search for established websites in your niche. Knock on their doors and ask them if you could publish a compelling article and have a link back to your personal blog. Don't be afraid to contact high traffic websites. If you write a good article you can expect fair deal of traffic to come through the link. Whenever you publish something new, either a guest post or article at your blog, share it across your social networks and your social bouncing will increase. This adds-on to your SEO too and increases amount of followers at social networks.

This should get you started quickly:
      • Create a Facebook Fan Page
      • Get targeted visitors to like the page.
      • Post every 3 hours or more of possible.
      • Place links back to your blog(s) in the posts.
      • Use photos, videos - memes etc..
      • Ask people to share, comment and like your posts
      • In a few weeks you should have a few thousand likes and 300 - 400 visits to your blog daily if you do it correclty!
*** Start getting people to a squeeze page and onto a list - ASAP ***

This is Key and super important for long term traffic and revenue!

Build a huge list and send emails out regularly to the list.

      Hope this helps.

I like writing blogs too and if you are concern with the traffic then it is necessary to follow some points. Firstly it is necessary to post your content on the authoritative sites like Wordpress, newsvine, tumblr etc. and those having good page rank. Make sure to syndicate your blog post this will make your content spread widely. As far as SEO techniques are concern to generate traffic you can do directory submission and you can even do blog comment and forum comment this will surely help you in generating traffic towards your website.

Hey look. In my own opinion, you need to use Facebook Campaign. It is the sweetest and nicest. for as little as $5 you can get thousands of like if you do it right. Make sure during your demograph, you focus on members in your niche.

Give it a try. It is worth it

Write long blog posts giving real information to your readers. I’m talking about 1000-3000 words. I noticed that when I started writing longer blog posts I got more RSS feed readers.

I have enough knowledge because I studied many years offline. If you don't have enough knowledge so that you may write interesting long blog posts with useful information, you have to make a long research before writing.

I used to write a short blog post everyday and get a few new readers once in a while.

Since I started writing more, everything dramatically changed. Wish I had understood this truth many years ago. I wasted a lot of time with short blog posts that were not really meaningful.

Traffic has to be slow and steady. You can not use all the methods out there, you should only stick to some and you will see result.

I suggest you do video marketing. Create videos from your articles (Whiteboard Videos are good), upload it on youtube, put good descriptions (So you will show up in SERP).

The content is only tool which can provide real traffic to your blog anything the else only can drag the traffic for some time but it can't provide it for permanent as the user who visited your blog for first time only come back when he/she find relevant to their search query if your blog is not capable of providing solution to their problem or any type of knowledgeable facts then they won't come again so it is better to focus on your content first then you can do some thing like
Before providing any link to social networking site 'facebook and google+ ' of your blog post you must cross how it looks or appear to other people when they look at the link that link must have some content so that people get attract to click on that but keep in mind it must be relevant to your post and not a spam type of content.
Write some guest post for some good and well known blog which provides backlink in that way you ca distribute your writing sample to other people and your writing sample also get some publicity.
Blog comment must be related to the discussion going on over the blog or it must be about the article.

Getting traffic will ALWAYS be something you need to do for the life of your business.

    Some points about getting traffic:

    1. Basically, you can divide your traffic activities into two categories: 1) short-term and 2) long-term. You need both.

Pay-per-click (PPC) traffic costs money and is GREAT for getting a jumpstart and seeing results NOW (like, in just 15 minutes). There are free traffic methods too, like articles, but they are much slower and are a more long-term traffic strategy.

    You need both.

    2. Focus on WHO your target audience is and go where they are.

That is, too many people in the IM space focus on other IMers and give traffic resources that are really only for IMers, which is of NO help if your target audience is NOT other IMers or biz-op seekers! (Note the suggestions here on the WF. Almost every single suggestion assumes you're targeting other IMers.)

That said, here's a list of 15 different traffic methods. It's not an exhaustive list, but it will keep you busy for a long time to come.

    1. Search Engines and Directories
    2. PPC advertising
    3. Your own e-zine
    4. Your articles on other e-zines and websites
    5. Ads on other websites
    6. Ads in other e-zines
    7. Online forums and discussion groups
    8. Recommendations by other e-zine publishers (cross promotion)
    9. Recommendations by other site owners
    10. Affiliate programs
    11. Your e-mail sig file
    12. Exposure in radio, print and TV
    13. Live speaking to groups
    14. Postcard mailings
    15. Social Media
    16. Joint ventures

The mistake many Warriors make is trying to do it ALL. They end up exhausted, with no results. The key is to focus on just a handful (say 5) and do them over and over again. So pick the methods that best fit YOUR business and audience. Remember to include 1-2 fast-traffic methods and make the other 3 more long-term strategies.

It's VERY IMPORTANT to understand the online marketing process first. Online success is pretty basic and follows the same basic process for everyone, no matter what niche they're in:

Traffic > Opt-in page (to build your list) > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) (to follow up with your list) > Sales page

A sample traffic list could look like this:

    1. Social Media
    2. PPC
    3. Direct mail
    4. JVs
    5. Video

So those traffic sources lead to your follow up systems like this:

    1. E-zine/newsletter
    2. E-mail
    3. Direct mail

Which then lead to the actual conversion (sales) points like these:

    1. Solo ads
    2. Teleseminars
    3. Webinars
    4. Direct mail

These are where actual presentations and offers are made. They are generally the point of sale, where someone makes a decision to buy. To be successful with traffic, you need to reverse engineer the process and know where you're going before you start. Whether you're leading to a webinar, teleseminar or whatever will influence what traffic methods you use.

With all of that said, here are some resources for learning how to get traffic:

    1. Kim Roach of MyTrafficMentor.com offers a good course for learning how to get traffic. Check out her information at Traffic LIVE!

    2. Ana Hoffman at Get BIG Website Traffic for Small Budgets | TrafficGenerationCafe.com also offers a cornucopia of traffic-getting help and information.

For help with Facebook ads and general Facebook marketing, check out:

    3. Michelle Pescosolido of Social Media Mastery

    4. Ben Adkins of Evil Facebook Magician at Facebook Magician | Secrets To Getting Attention... Fast

Beware: Often, traffic generation info is geared to other IMers, so they'll give you resources geared to that. If your audience is other IMers, fine. If not, be wary and choose people who can help you get the traffic you need. Don't waste time, money and effort getting unqualified traffic.

Once you get started, you'll see recommendations for other resources. If it makes sense for your audience and business, then do it it. If not, don't, no matter how bright and shiny the newest, latest, greatest offer is.

    Hope that helps!

      Hi Michell,

      An invaluable post.

I copied and saved it for future use.

      Great job.

These days, we read so much about "set it and forget," that most newcomers to the internet have come to believe it all. And as a result, they struggle so much more to make it online. And then there comes the "gurus," once again, with another of their "solutions" to the newbies' lack of online success. Something else to buy that leads no where soon.

But as you remind us, "Getting traffic will ALWAYS be something you need to do for the life of your business."

I really do hope that the newcomers have taken time to read your kind admonition.

      Once again, than you, Michelle.

Do you know what type of traffic you are looking for? Buyers, connectors, freebie seekers etc?

Buyers will give you money, connectors will share your work and freebie seekers are a great source for building communities fast (e.g. Facebook groups, forums etc.) Rarely will a reader belong to more than one of these groups.

When you know the type of traffic you want, then decide on the demographic you want to target. Targeting everybody usually ends up appealing to nobody.
      • The fastest way to get visitors is to buy them. This can get really expensive if you don't know what you are doing.
      • The next fastest way to get visitors is to hijack them from somewhere that has a lot of visitors. The usual ways to do this are by submitting guest posts or commenting on popular articles (or posts). You need to give the reader a great reason to go to your webpage.
      • SEO can work well but is problematic with new sites. This is something that you allow to build over time while you actively hunt for visitors.
      • With Facebook, twitter, bookmarking sites etc. you are usually trying to get bored people (who are idly surfing) to come to your webpage. Therefore you need to give them an exciting reason to do it. Otherwise they will continue surfing.
For traffic purposes you want your content to be exciting and evergreen. Evergreen content may get you traffic for the next 10 years while topical content will mostly become irrelevant fairly quickly.

Each article or ad you produce should be targeted to both the person you want and to the action you want them to take.

      Good luck with your site.

According to me forums are the best place to get quality traffic as it is full of quality traffic that actually wants solutions to their problems that they may have. Each forum has its own posting rules so you must read the guidelines carefully before you actually start posting. I get most of my traffic from useful responses on forums. And one of the most important reasons why forums are best because they are completely free to join. The only thing you have to do is spend some time on forums in your niche and the traffic will automatically start coming to your website. Good Luck.

What is the purpose of your blog? If it is to generate sales, your first priority should not be the traffic, but to perfect the visitor-to-customer conversion.

The fastest way to test the conversion is to simply pay for 200-300 clicks.

When you have the conversion under control, you can decide on whether it's profitable to continue with PPC, or to switch to the native traffic generation.

This question is asked by millions of people..

I know you like design a lot, but at the moment designing is not a factor all out.

You have to Focus on writing High Quality Content and try to become expert on it. Close down everything and completely focus on writing quality article it does not matter if it takes 1 hour to 2 hours to write one article.

What happens exactly if you write article and publish in your blog.

When you publish in your blog, each post have each URL and each link. that link get index in Google and various searching engine website. So it is very important for your write daily quality stuff and basically solve problems of people, write that kind of content where people are facing problems and you can solve for them.

You need these plugins, very important for you..specially for SEO

For design, fashion and art niches Pinterest is an excellent traffic source.

I can't see your blog, but if you do web/graphic design and publish on your blog, you can also levarage tutorial sites and deviantART.com (this one is huge) to drive targeted traffic to your blog.

Video marketing has been working well for me for years now.
Most of my traffic comes from YouTube.
I would advise doing SEO though, perhaps getting Google Authorship also.

Close down everything and completely focus on writing quality article it does not matter if it takes 1 hour to 2 hours to write one article.
I wish it took me 1 or 2 hours. For real quality and in-depth articles or tutorials I'd be looking at 1 or 2 days not hours.

    Back to traffic.

The starting point is epic content. Once you've got content so good that people can't help read, link, share and rant and rave about you go to where your target audience is and get your content or ads in front of them.

Network with others in your niche so they know about you. Don't underestimate how much traffic a single tweet, share or mention from an authority blogger in your niche can drive.

There are some seriously golden posts here. WF truly can be a goldmine.

As for my two cents, I would say content is the most important. Best case scenario- Your content is so good that it only needs One person to see it. It has to be so good, he will tell everybody he knows. Then they will tell everyone they know.

That's the power of good content .

As an example, I'm posting articles about things I could make a WSO out of- But instead of making a few bucks here on WF, I give it away for free to my audience.
You'll want to give them a golden nugget here and there.

Traffic is the holy grail with a blog. Quicksprout University is a very helpful resource with several different videos teaching you how to get traffic.

Just know, quality traffic only comes over time. Grab information (email) of those who do come to your blog so when you have a new post you can let them know to come back and slowly you will start to build a loyal audience.

    Hi,

Good solid useful content always brings in repeat visitors to your blog.

Especially if you are wise and are building a list of email subscribers
    from your blog too.

If you have a nice backlog of content rich posts at your blog over time
you'll be able to see that you'll begin to get a nice flow of repeat visitors
back to your blog that are actually typing in your "BLOG" domain
name and looking over your site again and again.

This is also known as "Direct Traffic" if you have Google Analytics placed
on your blog so you can track your traffic stats.

Also if you're building a list (as you should be) then whenever you make
a new post you can allow your subscribers know about it and this can
have a knock on effect in terms of people buying related affiliate products
you can showcase there or indeed your own products too.

If you do some very basic SEO (which I don't particularly enjoy doing but
I only do the basic stuff) on all your posts Google and any other search
engines will thank you for the decent consistent traffic you're managing to
get by ranking some of your posts and of course that is extra traffic too.

Not something that I particularly go for the SEO stuff but you might as well
do some basic stuff on your posts seeing as though you are posting regularly
    anyway.

Okay hope this helps you out and good luck for the future.

    Gavin

Try to write one article day of 800 words.

The article must be Copyscape approved.

Do this and see the magic happen.
    All the best. Regards
