Question about niche approach

Hey all,

I am researching a variety of niche markets that I am knowledgable about and can add value to. They're very diverse - and I am uncertain about something that's pretty elementary: the name I use on the sites and on emails to customers. Let me elaborate:

Frank Kern has said he has various niche businesses that are diverse. Does he use his name Frank Kern across all websites/products/email?

The reason that this is challenging me is how it might effect perceived reputation or social proof? If someone in one of Kern's niches, say a non tech savvy 45 yo woman who he has a product aimed at, comes across something aimed at an Internet marketer, would he lose credibility in her eyes and thus effect a potential sale?

Any pointers would be great - cheers all

You can use a Pseudonym or 'pen name.' All the basics of building credibility for that pen name apply.

If you're looking to market to a variety of niches some will suggest "pen names" which works but let's play devil's advocate, what if that same woman you mentioned above finds out that your "pen name" is really you. Wouldn't that make you lose credibility in her eyes? If you are knowledgeable in your niches there is also no reason you couldn't use your name among them all.

In all honesty there isn't a one size fits all so it comes down really to personal preference.

I think you should think about what you are trying to accomplish with the use of pen names? Are you trying to build personal credibility in a certain topic or are you trying to spread yourself into unrelated niches. I think that the use Pen Names could be useful if you are producing products in unrelated niches. However, with that said, maybe you have an interesting background that makes it make sense not to have pen names. I know authors who write under different depending on category. One name is for children's book and another is used for adult novels...makes sense to me.

I believe personally using your own name will only help increase your open rates and conversion. The reason being is, people only buy from people they...

    KNOW, LIKE, AND TRUST.

If you sit and think for a momment, think of the major places where you spend money. You go to stores like best buy, walmart, kroger, publix, etc etc because you trust they will deliver quality products.

Further more have you ever bought something online from someone? What was your reasoning? More then likely you knew the person, you liked what they had to say, and you trusted they would provide solid value for you, if you paid them money.

As far as a women in her 40's non techy losing credibility -- as long as you provide value and keep her best interest at heart, I do not see that happening.

Internet marketing is just about learning some new skills and taking action on what you learned. The great thing about skills, and they are all learn able.

Also one last note, to be honest you will not please everyone in this business. This is why you need to focus your niche/market down to a select group of people who are interested in what you have to say and sell -- then simply put your offer in front as many of them as you can.
