I can't believe I'm trying IM again after so many years....

Oh man......

It's weird. I'm starting a new site after many years of not building anything. Problem is I forgot how much work it takes.

I remember when I started back in 2000 here's what happened.

1) I got the idea of a lifetime direct from the Almighty in a dream (no joke)
2) I was a brilliant copywriter back then so writing a sale letter was a cake walk
3) I dropped out of college and had all day every day to work on building it
4) Did I mention I had the perfect idea??

So in short order, like maybe a month or 2 I was making daily sales. And that gives you hope right. So it's easy at that point to keep plugging away.

I got onto clickbank for almost a year. That ramped things up huge. Then by that time the rest was history. It was 5 figures a month for years after that.

Then things eventually fell apart in a major way. Stuff I never saw coming. To make matters worse I shut down the site. I was just an idiot. Hind sight is 20 20 though.

So I took a couple years off. Now I'm trying again, ahhhhh, talk about insane!

I've debated maybe instead just buying an old van and becoming like a hobo instead. Just living out of the van. I know you think I'm joking but I'm not.

Fortunately I have 4 good ideas. One I've launched. And I know I just started advertising it but I'm already discouraged. I just wonder if it will amount to going anywhere.

My challenge is that it's a "good idea" (the one I've launched) but it's not exactly a great idea. Like I'm hoping it will make a few extra bucks. But it's hard to say.

My challenge is all my skills are old. I barely even know how to use WP, so I just been building sites in html still, which is what I'm good at.

This is a tricky scenario that's for sure. Like I have no income at all. What I have going for me are my 4 ideas, my skills and my computer/internet. Thats' pretty much it.

So what are my chances in this web 2.0 era? arrhhhhh

Your chances are as good as you believe they are.

If you believe you can do it, you most likely will.

There are zillions of Wordpress tutorials in the world to refresh your memory so that shouldn't hold you back at all.

I will tell you this, focus on one, maybe two ideas at a time and stop there.

Take project one as far as you can take it, make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, grow the project, and have an exit plan for the project. This is a generic piece of advice but it's worth mentioning because almost no one has this outline for their ideas and it's a good reason most of the ideas never take off.

If you have no income, it's going to take you a long time to get the project off the ground and do it well.

Most of the information you need can be found for free, and with a budget of zero you have quite a bit of reading to do.

    You had 5 figures/month!

I think it's more to getting updated with new stuffs, pretty sure that you have the fundamentals from your past experience.

What about building a list this round?
This way you can at least keep your list if anything goes wrong.

I feel like you got somewhat lucky with your first venture in that your idea was solid. The hard work was all you, of course.

But perhaps you've never experienced failed ideas before. Once you realized most IM ideas fail, it's pretty easy to move on and find the ones that will be successful.

However, you might be one of those who has really solid ideas before taking action so perhaps less failures for you? Whatever the case, if you can find that core determination and perseverance that you know is inside you and that you used before, I can see you getting back to where you were.

    Right?

Everything is quite worse now. Google’s updates changed the online scenario.

You have to deal with fierce competition like always, and it’s quite worse in this point too.

If you will give up after having problems, don't start again. You have to be persistent even without having positive results if you want to have positive results in the end. This is a hard battle.

Go for it NOW. People will look back on threads like this in years to come and say the following, "Man I wish I was doing all that IM stuff back in 2013, it was so much easier back then". And they will say the same thing 5 years from that date too. The truth is the BEST time to start WAS back in 2000 or whenever you first got started, but the NEXT best time is right NOW. Since you don't own a time machine (I assume) the best time is now and don't let anyone tell you any differently. You can do it again as long as you believe and persevere.

    Ya all good advice....

Well with the last project it did well because I had sorta hit the nail dead on. A pressing need that was somewhat unaddressed. Those people had money generally speaking. Very little competition. Very strong sales letter (back then it was letters). Just everything was in place. What derailed it eventually was the g-v who else. Word to the wise - keep anything you do online on the down low, even if you think you're doing everything correctly and honestly; well guess what - that's who they're looking for! Like another story, a guy in my country made millions online, selling honest products. Well teh ftc came up here to Canada and stole his money. No joke. Why? In my mind for only the simple fact that there was a lot to be stolen. So they came up here blackmailed him into giving up the money to avoid charges, so he did. If you think I'm lying look up the name: sherwood park Jesse Willms. They stole 370million off the guy. I'm sure he didn't do anything all that wrong. What happens though is whereever there's money to be gained, that's where the bureacrats are looking. Same thing will pretty much happen to anyone who makes money online and leaves themselves exposed. But it was kinda long overdue for a change in life. I can't keep dwelling on the past. Just got to try and move on. But starting from scratch sucks. Well I have 1 great idea and 3 good ideas right now so I guess all I can do is just work on them and hope that something pans out.

Your comments make it clear you're not prepared to be a "real" business owner. Harsh, I know. But true.

Business is ALWAYS changing. That's biz. You're no worse off than any other newbie starting out. Dig in and update your skills. If you can't adapt, you will never have long-term success.

Stop focusing on the bad stories. Focus instead on building a solid BUSINESS -- and then behave like a real business owner (hire lawyers to protect you when necessary).

If living in a van down by the river is an option, you will never succeed. Failure (long-term failure, that is) can NOT be an option!

Your mentality and focus right now almost guarantee failure.

I took your advice and looked him up...

Sherwood Park Internet marketer Jesse Willms has agreed to a costly settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) relating to massive online fraud allegations.

According to an FTC news release Thursday, the court-filed settlement order imposes a $359 million judgment that will be suspended upon Willms' surrender of bank account funds and proceeds from the sale of his house, personal property, and corporate assets, including a Cadillac Escalade, fur coat and artwork.

The settlement order also permanently bans Willms, 24, and his companies from using "negative-option" marketing, a practice where the seller interprets consumers' silence or inaction as permission to charge them fees.

In the news release, the FTC claims the settlement halts Willms' "deceptive practices" by stopping an Internet scheme that allegedly used bogus "free" product offers that deceived consumers in the United States and other countries, and charged them for products and services they did not want or agree to purchase.

"The fact that almost four million consumers fell prey to the lure of these 'free trial' offers is a stark reminder that 'free' offers can come at a huge price," said FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection Director David Vladeck.

The settlement - which still requires final approval by a Seattle district court judge, expected within a week - stems from a $450-million civil lawsuit earlier filed by the FTC against Willms and his various companies.

According to a May 2011 FTC complaint, Willms and his companies lured consumers with "free" trial offers for weight-loss pills, teeth whiteners, health supplements, a work-at-home scheme, access to government grants, free credit reports and penny auctions.

Consumers were often charged for the "free" trial; a monthly recurring fee, typically $79.95; and additional monthly recurring fees for so-called "bonus" offers.

Hmmm, tis story really push me to go all out with mine too, but i don't think i have the courage to tell all the story. But here's what happened with my life. I am physician in real life. Was marketing manager in several companies; the latest one, small-medium enterprise, welcome me as its GM and turn out i was asked to be positioned as VP. Few months later, as a single mom, i was force by my father to take work as government officer, went to rural area, and back being physician, because my father think by being back as physician and government's officer it will give me more assurance for retirement.

About year ago, big thing happened in my life. I was still doing things online but nothing big, since i only use it as part time, for something that i love to do. Till that "big thing" came striking like a lightning. Something happened with my son. Something terrible. I had to face someone in court for that. And I won. During that period i left everything in village where i beginning to build something for future. I made 4 figure income each month in us dollar, something -big enough- for someone at my age, in my country. But since that "terrible thing" it left me with zero.

So i decided to go back to the internet, and begin to search for the right opportunity. I went back here, wanted to learn more and more about IM. And luckily i found stiforp as well. Something I intended to focus on.

Now, 'though still not yet reach my short goal, I feel relief already that i managed to pass the dark day; and move on. A book called "The Present" from Spencer Johnson also taught me something: living in the present, learn from past, make plans for future in a way i never really saw it before.

So now, waiting for my next departure in real life career, i spend my day in www. Feel happy for it is always something that I enjoy to do. Make some stocks trading, promoting stiforp and learn IM by doing.

I guess for the person starting this thread i can only say like this: never give up.
No matter how hard ur life can be, just know, there are many other people in this globe suffer worst than u, and they still have courage to stand back.

Just continue things you do. Don't force urself to harvest right away; coz the result ain't important as the process itself.

I'd be careful when it comes to stuff like that. Anything that's too good to be true often is. Also any business opp that uses that much hype in marketing is obviously just a scam. Marketers can fool the public but they can't fool other seasoned marketers. Like I said be careful. So many scams online.

Obviously there is a lot more competition now than there was then, so it will be considerably harder. There is still a lot of money out there to be made though, so don't let that put you off. You need to persevere and not give up when things start getting bad, because if you stick with it and see it through you'll succeed in the end

Start out slow. The skills that you already have might need to be updated, but are relatively simple to at least get started. I really like the ideas that Mike Filsaime shares about doing one project at a time to completion. Then going on to the next project.

The other Idea that I'll throw out there is to take a look at Dennis Becker's 5 Dollars A Day. Sounds like you've followed a similar model before.

Go do it and don't look back. It's not harder, just different. If you're willing to be flexible in your marketing, you'll be fine. I set up The first site in my signature at the beginning of October last year. Two posts, one main page, some images, and a video. It took maybe two weeks and I hit #1 in G. I'm still there, and have sales coming in since then. I've done nothing else to the site. It's all in your attitude. My advice? Don't listen to people on here who say how hard it is. Just go for it, and adjust along the way. Don't let that van be an option.

One thing for sure you are doing something right in this new IM era and that is you are being social at least here in the Warrior Forum. Keep that in mind with any products you want others to buy into. I personally do not like buying products if I do not know who the person really is.

As far as Worpress, well it may look strange but once you realize how incredibly easy it is to use and with coding skills you will see how simple it is customized themes and all. I still think html pages are still essential for sales and squeeze pages.

If the technical stuff is too nerdy then hire someone and work on your ideas to get your products out there. Ideas are great but if you don't get them out there you won't know if they will work or not in today's IM. You may have already heard this: "If you are gonna fail, fail fast and go on to your next attempt."

    And as Michelle quoted...

Thanks for everyone's advice. No I got to change my attitude. That van idea I realized is coming from a defeatest attitude. If I go on a road trip like that I'll do it cuz I have a lot of extra passive income to do it. As for that website I got started, I finally got it launched but in all honesty I don't think it's gonna have the viral effect I was hoping for. It's really too bad as I was kinda hoping that would work out. It's still too soon to tell but I think I should move on and rapidly begin trying something new. that has more potential.
