How would I go about finding clients?

Hello everyone, I've decided I could make a few extra bucks here and there by offering my services as a personal trainer to those who need it online. In person I charge people around $200/week and they are happy to pay it. I'm only looking to charge $20/week for online training, which would include me building them a workout routine, diet plan (all tailored specifically to the individual), and will be able to answer any questions they have 24/7 through skype.

I'm just having trouble finding clients for this. I'm using a craigslist scraper under keywords like "Personal Trainer" and contact about 40+ people via email (Personalized email saying I saw their ad, etc.). I get a few people interested but they eventually just stop responding to the emails.

Has anyone had success with this? Is anyone willing to theorycraft some ideas with me on how to get this going? I've thought about using other scraping programs (For sites like twitter and facebook). Or even creating a website that offers online training and I would even consider hiring other trainers if I get to overloaded. But that would require SEO.

Any input is appreciated!

Create a gig on Fiverr and on various gig sites and then work on promoting your gig into order to get clients.

Do you have a website to show some of your work or testimonials? I wonder if a semi-membership site would work well for you; a subscription but then tailor the routines, advice to each member. I'm wondering if people just aren't seeing something tangible on the web.

Start a Facebook fanpage of your service. You can build a big brand by doing that

The first thing I would do is setup a website. This way anytime you find someone who is interested with whatever promotional method you choose, you can point them to one place with the latest information. As far as SEO, I would definitely do it (it's potentially free traffic) but it's not strictly necessary if you have other methods of getting people to your site.

The second thing I'd look into is Fiverr, it's perfect for what you're looking for. If your aim is $20/week, you could easily have a couple of gigs for $5 each, one for a workout plan, one for a diet plan, etc. You can add various "addons" as well (e.g. they pay $20 and get a one-month diet plan). There's a few similar gigs on there already doing quite well (I've bought one of them) so there's definitely interest.

Finally, look at offline advertising! There are a couple of suggestions I could offer:
    • Try to create relationships with local gyms (you've probably already done this, unless you train outdoors). But either having them recommend you for live training or refer people to your website would be valuable. You could offer to put some flyers on the desk or stick some on the door where people come in.
    • At my gym they have a member's notice board where anyone can post an ad (they might not like you advertising there, but it's extremely targeted, free advertising)

All great ideas! I think I'll create that website- If anyone is interested in doing the SEO for a percentage based payment (Percentage of revenue from the site) I'd be happy to work something out.

No real SEO company is going to be willing to do SEO for a website based on percentages of revenue because they have no way of controlling the quality of your training. Plus, you're dealing with a pretty competitive niche - work on getting your first few clients, get involved with FaceBook, and let it spread through word of mouth.
