Josh Anderson makes some not-flashy-looking but
fast-loading players - designed to be lightweight and
    do cool tricks.

    Thanks Loren,

    Trigger players is one...

But my favorite video player is the one we developed at Transparent Video Player - h.264 Flash Video Player - Alpha Channel Video Player

The reason is because of its advanced player controls and support for flashplayer 10 video formates such as h.264 encoded mp4 and mov as well as flv.

My partner and I have worked hard optimizing it for both delivery and response boosting...

Other than that I'd say that the runner up would be the JW player.

My third favorite is Tracy Childer's Media Menu Producer which is specifically for multi track flv playback. I just like the designs :-)

Also you ask what "most" use...

Most people do not understand what features they should look for in a player. There are specific functions and features that a professional player must have before I would consider using it.

One of the biggest mistakes that anyone can make is following the flock since the majority don't know what impacts response and consumption when it comes to video publishing on the web. The video player you choose can have quite an impact if you don't look for the right features such as:

    1. Buffer control... you want to be able to load your video to play instantly and not force the annoying and uncessary "loading, loading, loading" that can cause you to loose eyeballs fast.
    2. Flashplayer 10 support for native h.264 video playback in addition to flv
    3. Direct response triggered events like redirect or on site event control illustrated in my products.
    4. Navigation such as a dragger bar for viewers with short attention spans and multiple tracks for chopping up the content into digestible pieces.
    5. Quality and compatible scripting to ensure all your viewers can watch your video.
    6. Optimized supporting script (if any) and player file size and loading.... I once saw a video player that was 750kb!!!

JW player is definitely among the most popular right now because of its early open source roots... and if you had no other choice I would go with it... but if you really want to do some wild response boosting stuff and have the most optimized player in the west I always turn to my Transparent Player.
