I have no problem thinking of an idea for a product. I have one in mind now for fish keeping product range.

The next part would be to then find out if people would be interested in those product before spending a fortune on producing the product and creating the website and wasting so much time.

Understanding that using keywords in google/twitter and so on are useful, if you know how to read the numbers involved.

My issue is knowing how to show my idea to the relevant niche market and getting the feedback/preorders that will make it worth doing.

Do you use forums, facebook pages, twitter and other social media to get noticed within that market and become an authority in that market before launching a product, or are there other ways that you can suggest?

Yeah, I have done a search on popular sites in the relevent niche and other popular online shops, like amazon and ebay. I have just found standard stuff.

I have just started out with a aquarium, I have had it about a month or so.

Looking around at the different ornaments available for the tank, for decoration, I wasn;t really that interested in the standard stuff, its all obvious stuff, plants, pirates, mermaids, atlantis, scuba diving, ruins, sunk boats, submarines and even cars.

But what if I didn't want this standard ornaments, what if I wanted a different theme, maybe having a horror themed aquarium, sports, or a theme park or a religious aquarium? I couldn't find anything else too different than the standard stuff.

You can have themed weddings, parties, wallpaper, etc, why not fish tanks too.

Generally if You don't have :
    A) A List in that Niche
    B) A Testing Budget for PPC
    C) Affiliates

Then you'll pretty much have to go at it Blind.
That means creating the Product, Squeeze pages etc, Then Driving Traffic Via Forums, PPC and Any other source out there, To Build a decent enough List.

Once you have your first list built with a decent Sized Subscriber base, the Next Product Launch Will be Much Easier.

Make sure your giving away something they want/need on the squeeze page, as your main goal is generating leads at this stage. So e.g Top 10 'Secret' Tips for Fish Care
Or something alike, will go down well.

If your trying to gauge how much interest there is to begin with globally, Just use googles keyword planner, and See how many Global Searches there are a Month for 'Fish Keeping' and Closely Related terms - Should give you a decent enough idea of whether its worth getting into or not.

    Hope this helps.

P.S Nice to see your from Cardiff, I am near Newport myself

Having to spend alot of money is generally something any start up should avoid as much as possible and it sounds like dong this would cost a fair bit, especially when done blind and I think is why a lot of business fail.

There has got to be a way of knowing that people will spend their hard earned money on your product/service before spending a lot on it. ie, pre-orders. if there isn't enough interested people willing to pay, then its not worth doing.

And its always nice to have somebody pretty local on these forums. Newport aint too far way. lol

Mrnace, This isnt a GTA Launch. Its much different.
Without decent investment, There is no way of knowing How your product converts, Other than the Methods I have listed above.
Assuming you have no previous reputation, References or Resources, Then the only thing you can go by is general public data.

Generally though, If you have a good enough Product, AND Sales Pitch, You will get Sales IME - If advertised in the Right Place[s] .

No problemo if you want some help, Just PM me. Always happy to help.

      I just pm'd you.

I just begrudge paying too much out, when I don't know how things will go at all. The pm will tell you why.

I'd rather spend a bit more money on making sure people know about the product and want it, before launch, and I am sure there must be a cheaper, more effective alternative than having to set up a website and market the hell out of it. it may take longer to take effect but there has got to be a way.

One way I thought of when watching a business Creativelive video recently was using crowdfunding websites like indiegogo, to see if people are interested enough, then if they are not, then you refund any money raised and try someething else, at no cost.

Try to find out what your potential customers are buying in this area. You have to make a marketing research before doing anything else. You may want to sell something you believe they will buy, but they may ignore your offer. You have to find out what exactly they are buying before trying to sell whatever you believe that they ‘should’ buy.

First of all you gotta figure out if your proposed niche has a good market.

Use Google Keyword Planner to find out along with some common sense.

If there is market then the next thing to do is make a product that these people will truly need without leaving anything out.

Lastly but not the least, you got to gather exposures using all manner of authentic traffic like SEO, adword, social media, forums, videos and many others.

How do I distinguish if the Google Keyword Planner is giving me good info on the niche?

Have the numbers got to be above a certain level for it to be considered good enough?

Just go by the Monthly Searches for it.
The More People Searching, And The Lower the Competition the Better.
