Promoting cigarette brands?

Hey guys, random thought just occurred to me

Could you potentially team up with a cigarette brand to post ads, banners, social media accounts, etc.? Seeing as they're banned from marketing pretty much elsewhere?

I'm assuming there's some kind of law against this, but theoretically is there a chance of getting away with it, and being paid through the back door?

Cigarette advertising is banned, or tightly controlled pretty much everywhere.

The "back door" may lead to an other door. One with bars.

Do you really want a business built upon "getting away with it?"

If cigarette advertising is banned, I'm guessing it wouldn't matter who was doing the promotion, the same rules would apply to you as the marketer that would apply to the tobacco company.

In my experience, "getting away with it" strategies are always bad!

You're talking about a billion dollar industry that's controlled by a select few companies - which would make it very hard to even get a decision maker on the phone. But I doubt they need much advertising, every gas station you go into is selling them right in front of you while you're checking out. Plus, every time the news mentions anything about smoking they are giving them free advertising.
