Email marketing software

Hey guys, this is my first post on this site. My name is Elliot, and I am in the email remarketing business.

I have used email platforms, and they have been very successful for my company. However, I am wanting to expand, and not be limited by the send limits, or subscriber limits companies put on our account.

Instead of going through a company for the platform, I would like to buy an email server, and then purchase my own software to automate the sending process.

I have searched through many pages of google, but I cannot find the actual software to purchase. All I am coming up with is different companies to use their own platform at a monthly rate.

Does anyone know of any reliable email platform software to purchase? If so, can it be integrated into most email servers?

Thank you for your time
Elliot

I would be also interested in this. I use only PPC to drive traffic to my websites, but last month another affiliate doing 1 product only made £110k from email marketing only!

I would interested to start this as well.

Try searching for 'self-hosted autoresponders' or 'self-hosted autoresponder software'.

You'll still have to wade through a lot of crap from affiliates trying to convince you that going with one of the services that pays ongoing commissions to them is your only choice. You'll also have to tune up your BS meter to get through the faux reviews by software affiliates.

Once you assemble a list of possible vendors, contact them directly to get your questions answered.

There are also several lengthy, if repetitive, threads here on the forum as it is a subject that comes up often.

    Thanks for the reply.

I've been doing some research on this forum, and other websites.

I need to figure out which a/r software is best for me. If anyone has any experience with them, your input would be greatly appreciated. I'll give a little background.

My company has up to 10+ websites with different products going at one time. When the potential customer registers, and then does not buy the product, they go into our database. These new prospects are the only people we send to.

We send to about 30,000 prospects per month, totaling over 100,000 emails monthly. Our main problem is this is only sending to 4 of our main products. I would like to be able to send to the prospects of all of our products.

    Main questions:

Are you able to link the database with the self hosting a/r so the subscribers can flow into it automatically, like a normal commercial email platform.

I checked pricing a little bit on the servers, and going with smtp.com, just for 100,000 emails it is more then I was paying with Icontact or GR. Checking Amazon ses seems much cheaper.

With the volume I am sending at, would I benefit from talking with my ISP and running my own server from home?

    Thank you in advance

Yes. Users can't tell the difference, except for the absence of company logos and the urls of the confirm/success pages.

For high volume, Amazon looks like it might be a good option.

Unless your home is connected to a trunk line, don't even think about this one. At you current volume, sending to 10 websites means about 250,000 per month. If you're on a neighborhood cable or DSL system, even if your ISP doesn't cancel you, your neighbors on the same node will show up at your door with tar and feathers.

Unless you know what you are doing and have a massive list in the millions, I highly recommend NOT emailing off your own server. Sure it seems cheaper but your delivery will suffer. Just today I was looking to purchase some email traffic and this company only gets a 2% open rate, why? They use their own servers and don't know what they are doing. They are a big, profitable company with a huge email list. If they spent a little extra to email through another company, they should be getting in my experienced opinion, open rates of like 15% which would mean the difference of making $1000 on an email drop to almost $8,000 on a drop. The cost is negligible because with their servers they are paying probably like $0.0005 per email with a service they may be paying like $0.002 per email with their volume. So its like a drop in the hat in terms of cost savings but huge hit in terms of profit.

That's why I recommended Sendy - Send Newsletters 100x cheaper via Amazon SES because you are sending not from your own servers but from the Amazon SES server and it costs $0.0001 per email.

500,000 emails would cost you $50 bucks...

Yes, SMTP mailing like AWS or Sengrid is super cheap and very good deliverability. That is the way to go. Google SMTP Mail Service if you want to find competitors or more info.

    Thanks for the advise guys.

We do have lists in the millions, but those are people that have already purchased from us.

Currently we are only sending to the potential customer, that has registered, and then did not buy the product. I would like to eventually look into emailing our current and past customer, but that will come later down the road.

I have used GetResponse, Icontact, and Imnica. I don't like being limited by their send and subscriber limits. Even with a subscriber limit of 30,000 I am having to go in daily and pull out the old ones to make room for the new. We send in a series of 4 emails over the course of 6 days, so we are loosing potential business.

I would like to be able to run my own server, but since I am in a residential area, that might not be the best case. It's looking like I might go with sendy, sending through amazon ses.

Thank you all for the advise, I will update more once I get it all setup and switched over. I still have to call some companies to work out the finer details, but you have all been a big help.

I used to do exactly what you are thinking of - I ran a high-volume email server from my house using a homegrown Linux server running Postfix over a residential DSL connection with a static IP address. My email code was written in PHP using Manuel Lemos' MIME email program (phpclasses.org)

It worked after a fashion - I got shut down a couple of times, but nothing a call to my ISP tech support couldn't resolve. The problem was that the delivery rate was horrible, with 97% of emails never arriving in the intended inbox.

Even though the real estate client was happy (e.g. send out 30,000 emails, 150 get through, 6 calls, recruit 2 new agents), I could see the writing on the wall so I discontinued the service. I'm now back in a related business, investigating 3rd party solutions.
