    Lol...

This will piss off a lot of people with poverty consciousness.

"Rich guy 'tries' to feed himself on 'paltry' sum."

    Or...

    "Millionaire goes 'food slumming'."

Can you eat on 4.50 a day?

    Heck yeah.

    Why would you want to?

    Marc

Edit: Actually - after reading the article, it bothers me. His schtick is basically an appeal to increase the allocation of food stamps. Just what we need. More dependence, not less.

I'm pretty sure my food intake averages less than $5 a day, but I prefer to make my own stuff instead of eating out.

I don't see a problem with it in the current economic environment. Selective issue food stamps are to the current mini depression what food lines for all were to the great depression.

I have relatives who are on food stamps. Their lifestyle is not ideal but they get by. They never hesitate to offer me food when I visit them. So, I am pretty sure they are not starving.

For $4.50, you can actually eat pretty well. A pound of hamburger in Cincinnati is about $3, buns are $1 pack for an off brand, and a can of corn is about $.50. That is several meals right there, and good meals at that.

I'm not so sure that is "eating pretty well"

      It may fill your stomach.

But your not giving yourself the nutrition you need.

If I was on a $4.50/ day budget, filling my belly would be my priority.

        Here is another example:
A bag of potatoes + a dozen eggs will cost a little over $3. That's enough ingredients to make me a decent breakfast for a week.

$135 a month is more than enough to buy groceries for one person....At least in New Jersey.

I grew up on welfare and always find this crap full of BS. Yes you may need to eat ramon noodles and other cheap foods but at least in IL you eat pretty damn well on welfare.

In my country $4.50 a day would definitely feed you once you leave out any extras & keep to the basics like bread, rice, etc. It would be difficult to deal with for most people, rich or poor.

If I make only $4.50 a day then it's only going to be a motivator to tell me to do more and more.

I don't believe any one is meant to be poor, we are all given equal opportunity even though it appears not to be so. Lots and lots of the billionaires in the world today did not have the best of life. In fact, there beginning was very very rough.

It's very easy to get full nutrition on less than $4.50 a day. I can do it on a bit less than $3 a day here in Costa Rica.

Rice, beans, milk, oats, peanut butter, ground flaxseeds, bananas, papayas, eggs and spinach (or whatever leafy green you want - you only need about a handful per day).

That will fully meet a minimum of 100% of the RDA/RDI, give you all the protein, fat, carbs you need (in proper ratios) and a good amount of omega 3/6 fats.

Anytime you attach a certain dollar amount to something, you've got to consider location as well. $4.50 will go a lot further in Georgia than in 'Anywhere' California. Same with developing nations, it will be much more realistic to do there than here in the US.

But if I was only making $4.50 a day - I'd be blogging and checking Google alerts religiously.
