How much traffic for this?

Hey all,

When trying to sell ad space directly, is there a certain amount of traffic advertisers like? Like a basic number per month? Or how much traffic do you think you should have before approaching people?

Thanks!

Traffic is usually sold at CPM (cost per mile) which means for 1000 impressions, depending on the quality of your traffic you can sell it for roughly .50 to $5 CPM

Say what? That's a different kind of traffic than I've ever wanted.

It's actually correct but I believe the spelling is mille. That is the M in roman numerals which means 1,000.

Yes, I knew Roman numeral "M" stood for 1,000. It's just that I've never seen it spelled or written "mile" or "mille." I looked "mille" up in the online dictionary and there were no listings at all. Is it a foreign (non-English) word? Just curious.

Do you think it's a good idea to contact sites directly or use sites like buysellads? I know they take a cut but is it just easier?

Also, if they find your traffic isn't converting into leads very well do they normally just cut you off?

Unless you have a huge list of people to contact, you for sure want to use a site where people can buy media. As far as how targeted it is that is judged by the content of the page. For instance if you had a page called Free Internet Marketing Advice, that would not be near as targeted as Top 10 Internet Businesses You Can Buy Into. The latter is people who are looking to potentially buy into an internet business, the first are people looking for the magic formula to get free money.

I think it might depend on the market and how targeted the traffic is. I would say I probably wouldn't look at anything that didn't at least have 1,000 unique views a day, but that is my opinion. Anything that had a huge amount of views would make me question how targeted it is. I like to have 1,000 views a day because that allows me to test a few things and see what works the best, and turn around those tests quickly. If I test 3-5 things on a site that has 1000 views per day, I can turn out statistically significant results on a daily basis.

Thanks for the information! So when looking at sites like buysellads, do different advertisers require different amounts of traffic per day? (If you know or recon)

Lets say I sometimes have 1000 a day or just under, do u think advertisers would go anywhere near me? And how would the advertisers know how targeted your traffic is?

      Thanks!

There is no certain number of traffic which can determine you can sell ads or not. The more traffic you have, more advertisers would like to buy your ad spaces.
