How often you delete subscribers?

I have a Fitness website where I offer some Free gifts and this is how I build my e-mail list. They first go through a series of follow-ups which are usually 2-3 days apart from each other, and then I send them regular broadcasts...3-5 days apart.

So I send them e-mails quite often and expect them to be active and open them at least once every week...

My question is...after how much time should I delete the inactive subscribers?

At this moment I have around 100 subscribers that didn't opened a message since the 1st of July. So that means more than 2 months of inactivity....

Should I delete them or should I wait one or 2 more months, hoping they become active again?

Thanks!

Assuming an average interval of 3 days, those people haven't opened their last ~20 emails from you. Do you really think sending 10-20 more is really going to make a difference?

Not really...but I just feel kinda sorry to delete so many subscribers at once

I wanted to hear some more opinions first...

If it isn't costing you anything, keeping them around doesn't hurt anything.

Bottom line, it's your call. I use a self-hosted program, so keeping people on a list costs nothing. I leave them in until they either unsubscribe or the address goes bad.

I use AWeber so they charge me based on the number of subscribers.

So I definitely have to delete some once in a while, the question is how often should i do it?

To be honest I deleted about 1,000 subscribers not too long ago and I regret it.

    Why?

Well, I was promoting a high ticket offer not too long ago...

And one of the person who bought it hadn't opened an email in like over a year.

So... Every person you delete is potential $.

Maybe this isn't the wrong answer?

But... I like to hold on to my subscribers now.

Until they either bounce... Or mark me as spam... Or otherwise unsubscribe.

    Just my $.02

I use the filters and give about 8 months as a guideline.

Have to keep in mind tho that there will be some who are opening emails and it does not register in your auto responder.

People who don't open but legitimately subscribed often have full inboxes. You don't stand out enough from their other email, or these people are not getting your emails (no email service has 100% deliverability, its impossible). So what you should do is take those 100 people, email them a sensational headline. Wait 4 hours, email them another sensation email headline, wait 4 hours repeat... obviously remove any openers each round. I guarantee you will get 20-30 of them to open an email.

I do this all the time.

If they don't constitute any space on your server why bother.

Give it a period of 3 to 6 months.
