Aweber double opt-in bypass!

Hey Guys,

I am very new to internet marketing and i got my first aweber account last night. I understand their double optin is somewhat of a hot topic. But I have came across a site who uses aweber and bypasses the double opt in flawlessly can anyone please shed some light on how this is done?

Thank you.

Frank

Go to list settings > Confirmed optin > Turn confirmed optin off. Then create a new WebForm, in the settings of the webform, make sure confirmed optin is off.
You can also search Aweber's support knowledgebase about this

Hey thanks! But wait! When this become an option. I remember doing tons of research about aweber and icontact and so on and the thing that turned people off aweber was this double opt-in that could NOT be changed! ?

Those were perhaps people from whom the single opt-in option had been disabled by Aweber at account level (for any one of a variety of reasons), so that it didn't show - to them - as an option at list level. As far as I'm aware, Aweber has always had single opt-in available.

Do you think this is not available to me as I am a new user? Although I have the option for the list just cannot find it for the form?

            I wouldn't think that's likely, no.

But don't you think that (especially having apparently been misinformed about a simple, factual matter, by so many people in the past) that it would be better to get your information from Aweber's support staff, rather than asking forum members their "opinions"?

That was my first port of call. I came here to find an answer as I await their response. Now I have one more question for you. If your NOT using the confirmed email option, would the thank you page essentially become your success page?

              Thank you

              This.

I appreciate you're awaiting a response but I still feel that as you're paying them, they will be your best and fastest bet to solve any issues. You can speak to them immediately with live chat too, so no need to await any responses.

Remember the advice they give you is more reliable than an unrelated forum.

20 seconds on livechat with Aweber would have solved that.

Not trolling at all. Just showing you how not to waste time.

You're the one that took ages to find out something you could have asked them and found out in seconds.

If you call that trolling, you need to grow up a bit and learn what it means.

                  Good luck though.

Edit. Can you point out the part of my post you mistook as trolling? I'm baffled.

Taking up space? That wasn't why I was trying to help you Frank. I was just trying to help you in order to help you.

Sadly you saw that as trolling.

Please accept my apologies for "trolling" you. I was just trying to help.

EDIT. Ok, I just Googled "aweber single opt in", first result was...

Now you have detailed instructions of how to disable it. From Aweber.

                          No worries.

The trouble is, on forums you can't tell how some things are being written. I really was just trying to help.

Anyway, I hope you get it all sorted out and you decide what to do.

                          Best of luck.

I totally agree. Anyways i realize whats been throwing me off. If you read hitesh 93 response he said there is also a form setting which i believe there is not. Thats what i was looking for, and the instructions you linked me to where exactly what I was doing.

But upon testing none of my updates where working when i realized the webmaster had replaced the form I put in java with RAW HTML. Why I dont know i must have him replace it back tomorrow. As i understand the java will update live where the html has to be replaced each time. So thats why i was confused and yes aweber staff could of solved my issues in minutes but its late here and their staff is offline.

                            Cheers

It all sounds very frustrating. If it's late where you are, I'd sleep on it. I often wake up and figure things out and they'll be back online tomorrow too. Sometimes when I get stressed out about something I find the best thing is to just walk away for a while, or have a beer.

Well, in all fairness to you, I didn't realise they were offline.

I stand corrected on that one.

When you create your first list there will be three steps to set it up, these steps will be above the fields that you fill in close to the top of the page with little circles next to them. On step there (confirmed opt in) there is a slider that says something like required opt in that is always on green when you first create a list. This is the double opt in confirmation and 40% of your leads will not double opt in. Slide the bar to off and then make the success page the page you want them to go to if aweber sends them a confirmation link which they will do from time to time. Now you're set up for single opt in and all good to go.

Fantastic thank you. And can i turn this off for existing forms? Why do aweber reccomend leaving it on if you lose 40% of leads? PS can anyone tell me where do you put a link for a page for users who already sign up. For example, user signs up they land on success page. user who has signed up previously tries to sign up again and they go to page which tells them they already have signed up. This happened me today on another site using aweber.

      Thanks

Reducing the number of complaints to them and to be sure that people really chose to opt-in.

Also, it's not like the 40% you lose are the same quality as the ones you keep. How many people are going to be so non-committal that they won't click a confirm link now, but will pull out a credit card later?

I think i found the already subscribed page. So a success page vs a thank you page. ? If not using the double confirmed optin is the thank you page the success page?

It's in the second-last step (just before you get the publishing code for the form). It should be set to confirmed optin 'off' by default if the list is set to single optin.

Aweber has had this feature for a LOOONG time - over 4 years that I know of for sure. The reports you're talking about comparing icontact and aweber is the importing of contacts. If you import some leads into Aweber, they have to be double-opted in, if you import them into iContact, they don't have to double optin.

Its not there? Ive tried looking creating a new form and a on an existing. Step 1 Create, step 2 settings - step 3 publish. No where in any of those. I clicked advanced settings to expand and not there also?

While this topic is being discussed, there are very few instances that turning off the double opt-in is advisable. Not only does it protect you from spam complaints. (In my experience, they are faster to get on you about spam complaints when double-opting in is disabled) But I've found that even though subscription numbers may be higher, engagement is much lower and you end up with lots of dead wood on your lists
