How often do you want to be emailed to?

Hi all, I am doing a survey on the ideal frequency one would like to be emailed to.

I understand that there is no hard and fast rule of emailing, but because my target audience are home based business owners, small business owners, Internet marketers, I believe it's a good idea to have a feel of what my target audience think.

The topics I will be mailing will be general copywriting tips. Not just for the MMO market but offline businesses as well.

Please give feedback if you have any, if not, just do the poll above. Thanks!

For me, the frequency I like depends on who is sending me the content. I subscribe to one blog from which I get daily emails - which I totally want. There are other bloggers out there that I really only want to hear from once a week at most.

You might want to consider setting a regular email schedule of xxx times per week, but then providing your list with the option to change the time frame to only once weekly. I've been seeing quite a few of these lately and really like having the choice.

I really do not like being mailed every day. I would much rather someone mail me a couple times a week -- or only mail me when they have something of real value to say, or a product that is extremely good.

I personally don't mind how many times you email me a day, it's not about frequency for me. It's more about what you send. If it's what I'm looking for, then it's a fit. I think that's one of the most common problem for email marketers, many tend to forget why their reader subscribed in the 1st place. I want the information I subscribed for and then some

I can deal with 1 email a day from everyone, sometimes 2 is acceptable. Iv'e been subscribed to some though, including some of the so called 'big hiters' who email like 10 times a day, and for me that's taking the biscuit!

There has been a ton of research done on this and most top marketers agree that 2 a day is about right , as many niches are different and as Terrance mentions if it good content people will read as long as its congruent to what your prospect signed up to,

he's dead right about most marketers forgetting to keep the theme to their original wishes after all if you sign up for a worm farming guide you don't want to be emailed about IM or similar as its mild apart -simple yes but how many times does it happen daily in my experience loads -then I unsubscribe hope this helps

Some of the ones I've subscribed to send me emails 1-2 times per day.. I think it's too much and I've unsubscribed several times. Once every 2-3 days is fine. I have no problem with it at all, as long as the emails contains something useful.

If you are delivering me value then I am happy to be emailed every day. If you are delivering me crap then I never want to hear from you. The frequency has to do with the value being given. If people like your emails they will keep opening them. If you don't, they won't.

I don't mind receiving it once every 2 weeks for companies that are not so important. E.g. Shopping sites. 4 times a week is simply too much and I'll probably unsubscribe from it.

Personally Im OK with once every 2-3 days, I have opted-in to lists before, only to find out they flood my inbox with like 2 emails PER DAY. I couldnt hit the "unsubscribe" button fast enough

    1) I don't think that there is an "ideal frequency". You're looking for something that it doesn't exist.

    2) Frankly I don't understand the point of your survey. You've got 16 votes or so. Will that help you in any way? I don't think so... 16 votes or 100 votes are irrelevant unless they're coming from your subscribers

To you... it really doesn't matter how often I want to be emailed. I'm not your subscriber.

Such a survey is a very good idea. But you've asked your question to the wrong audience. Ask your subscribers

    Frequency doesn't really matter.

    It's kind of like

"How often would you like a gold nugget?"

Most people won't have any limitation.

But there are some other objects I'd wager you wouldn't want at all.

    Ever.

Fated, or should I call you Fat Ed?

Personal preferences are going to be all over the map and as so many have said, it really has more to do with the value of what you're sending than the frequency with which you send.

But I wanted to specifically comment on what you said here:

If you sent me "general" tips I probably wouldn't find a lot of value in that.

Even newbies will find "general" information of any kind only takes you so far. The real valuable information is the deeper, specific kinds of tips that one doesn't find plastered all over the Internet. These are the tips worth noting and paying attention to . . . regardless of the niche.

Unique, focused, original ideas and methods will be of most value to your list . . . not "general tips."

    Good luck to you,

I have the unique angle of managing some large lists, one that is mailed ever day, and others that are not. The one that is mailed every day has lower open rates. BUT, # of opens per total subscribers is very high. So it really depends on what you want to get out of it. Also yes make sure you email when you have something useful, don't just email to email on a schedule, thats whack son! lol

A couple of times a week is my personal preferred number. It varies depending on the type of email though. For discount codes from websites I'm subscribed to, I like to receive them every day but for general lists I'm subscribed to, I prefer they don't email more than 2-3 times/week. There are exceptions however, and if the emails really benefit me then I don't mind them coming more frequently.

I received a lot of emails everyday to the extend I have to give up one of my email account due to too many junk emails (including those spamming emails which I cannot unsubscribed to)..really sick thinking about that.

Frankly I prefer to received mail about once or twice a week.

If I receive good quality content from the sender at the beginning,

I will open his or her email no matter how many times per day or week.

Once per day is fine for me

More than 8 times a day per sender and it gets a little old.:rolleyes:

Breakdown goes like this for a sample teleseminar:

    1. Tell me about the seminar.
    2. Remind me that the seminar is starting in 4 hours.
    3. Resend of the reminder email because they forgot to put a w in www.
    4. Ask if I got the reminder.
    5. Remind me that the seminar is starting in an hour.
    6. Resend of the reminder because they forgot to put the second t in http.
    7. Email to tell me that the seminar just started.
    8. Email to tell me that they decided to record the thing after all and I can get it by clicking the link.

2-3 times a week is cool. Everyday I usually tend to stop reading and eventually unsubscribe. Mainly I'm looking for value and a good offer.

It's not really about the frequency though. If you had something I wanted to read every day, I'd want you to mail to me every day.

Most things I don't really want to read, that's why I'm only on a couple lists. And those people don't waste my time at all or they are out.

    Hi,
It depends on who is sending the email. Mostly, though, no more than 3 times a week.

On my blog, I have a link you can click if you want to be emailed once a week.

    Good luck !

Just recently I signed up for a well known Internet Marketing person's email list. I then began receiving 3 emails a day from them!!! It made me 1) not value their knowledge anymore if this was their way to do business and 2) unsubscribe.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

I live in a country where frequent emails = spam. It's a notion most of my fellow countrymen think and I did a small survey with them.

most are ok with once a week but no more. However, I am incline to email once every 3-4 days. I think once a week is ideal but still too long.

Well, you never know until you test right?

Still, if you have feedback, I will love to hear from you.

I think it all comes down to the quality of the content.
Unfortunately it seems that, at least among those lists that i am subscribe to, almost everyone gets it wrong.
Those who have nothing to say seem to send out way too many emails and those that provide quality information don't send out enough.
If you don't email often enough people will forget who you are, but the last thing you want to be remembered for is sending garbage.

Couldn't have said it any better, guys! Maybe the OP needs to amend his poll so that one of the choices is "None of the above". That's what I would have voted for if it was an option.

Email me when you have something important to say. If that's once a day, that's cool. If that's once a week, that's cool, too.

Which brings me to my second point...

Steve hit the nail on the head. "General" tips are not worthy of you being allowed into my inbox (That's not me being mean or snooty, mind you. People are very guarded when it comes to handing out their email addresses.) Send out stuff that's creative, in-depth, and outside the box, and you'll have people's attention for as long as you want it. Send out stuff that people can find in every corner of the web, and you'll wind up with alot of unsubscribers.

Remember, you never want someone to look at what you're offering and think, "Is that all?"
