Hosting issues, please help me..

Hi Warriors,

I am in a great trouble. I have my couple of sites hosted with HostingFree4Life.com, where they charge you one time fee and host your site for life. I am sure many of IMer using that host.

The host has been down since almost 2 weeks, I have tried to contact the owner Justin Richards via email but haven't heard anything. I tried to get their contact info from whois but no luck....

Did you host your site there? Do you know the owner? Do you have any news whats going on there? Are they going to be up or gone forever?

Any help/recommendation is highly appreciated.

Amar

Well, I never had my sites hosted with them.. but you should have always kept backup specially when the companies offering cheap hosting.

may be someone who's lucky to get in touch with this host could update you. I am sure someone here is in the same boat

I think is better that you find another host in the mean time.

Redirect your domains to a temporary page with a message saying site is
on Maintainence until you load your back ups to the new host.

I do not know what has happened to Justin Richards. I lost a lot of money on a project we were working on. I have not been able to contact him for months. Have you been able to reach him?

In business, I will always go for dedicated server hosting. If for hobby, then just get cheap hosting services.

As said, it is always better to have a backup copy of whatever you have uploaded. In case of corruption or problem you may face with your domain hosting, then you can move to another hosting with your backup. Otherwise you will be stuck.

You can expect to not see your money back. Nothing is "free for life". Everything has a cost.

The guy probably needed money on the short-term and decided to run this little scheme while it lasted. I wonder how many people he managed to scam.

This can happen on Blogger as well or any other free host.

Free and cheap sites are lost and deleted all the time.

And if you never owned the domain name, backups will not completely restore the site.

You should backup your site anyway, free host, paid, or dedicated. That's just common sense.

I can suggest HASTYHOST - affordable web hosting | shared, reseller, and vps. $2.96/month for a single account. For a reseller account it is 15.95$. I've never had anything better and the support is top notch. I've been using them since October of last year.

For business always use dedicated or a vps that you have a full control but still keep taking backup.

Anyway, seems noone here knows or in contact with this guy "Justine" ..

You may try on posting other forums too like DP (digital point) or WHT (web hosting talk)

You have to write this off to experience.

I have lost two hosts over the years (one time payment hosts), which were very good. Suddenly things go wrong - and your left without hosting (not so bad for me in these two cases as I always use several hosts). I also back up my websites off line.

The bottom line is: if you continue to pay for something, then there is an incentive for the owner to not only keep things going, but to develop functionality too.

If you must do free then an earlier post below shows one of the best:

Start using other free web host like - 000webhost dot com in its place.
All free hosting has limitations though. So base the backbone of your business on quality paid hosting.

Whatever hosting you choose, even if it is a provider with a back-up service ... make your own separate back ups too - especially of your databases!

I hope that you did not lose much as a result of your unfortunate incident.

      We all live and learn.

      Regards,
      Jeff.

Yes. I do agree. You can use free hosting to do promotion. But not for your main business site. It is always better to have your own control like using vps or dedicated servers. I am using dedicated servers for all my clients. Agreed that we should be constantly backing up our database in case of failure. In the electronic world, anything can happen at any time.

    Hi All,

Thank you for posts. I completely understand and agree with your suggestions about taking regular backups. It's my fault that I didn't take backups. I truly understand and realize the importance of having regular backups now.

I finally heard back from Justin Richards today mentioning that sites were down because they are moving to new servers and sites will be up soon.

I am just hoping that this happens really soon!

    Thanks warriors for your help.

There was a similar one time payment for a lifetime hosting like this by a Warrior and it ended disastrous. So, don't expect too much Amar.

Basically, they are marketers like us and will not be able to provide lifetime service for a one time fee.. can't really survive..

At your original post you said it had been 2 weeks your sites had been down. It is now a week later, and he is just getting in touch with you. Your sites have been down for 3 weeks with no warning or explanation up to the excuse you got today.

Find another host, you can't afford to place your business in the hands of this host. Use the hosting for testing, or something it doesn't matter if you lose it.

I had a problem with my hosting a few weeks back the result of which was Google must have crawled my site during the down time. They had been crawling it everyday, and every page was indexed. Now they don't visit as often, and only half the pages are indexed
