My website in hosted on hostgator and my domain name was bought at namecheap.
I have whois lock so nobody can see who is the owner.

Still Alexa can tell that my site is "Icelandic" ? and base my website rank on Icelandic website.
My website has nothing to do with Iceland except that I´m living there.

How do they know ?

According to Alexa yes. But Google analytics show most traffic from USA, UK and Australia

Doesn't Alexa get the data from their browser toolbar? If so if you or your relatives in Iceland access the site with it installed it may think that indeed a lot of the traffic comes from there (specially the more the traffic from other countries doesn't have that toolbar).

If it's a newish site I would have thought most of the traffic from it has come from you building and checking our site so that with register with Alexa.

I had the same with my site a lot of the visitors were from USA but it ranked for UK as I was working on it every day.

Who cares what Alexa thinks? Their rankings are really
only important to rookies who don't know better.

Alexa rankings and their stuff are no good. Believe me, if you keep your site open in 10 computers for full day, your alexa rankings will shoot up. That is the experience I have tested one of my site with.

Forget alexa and rely on Analytics....I wouldn't also only rely on Google Analytics but Piwik or Clicky Analytics are also good to provide you with some important information.
