5 Ways To Brand Yourself For Maximum Online Profits

by 4 comments
Hey Warriors,

Some time ago I have written an article that stresses the importance of branding yourself for maximum profits. Today I'd like to share that with you.

In whatever business you do, be it online or offline, it is very important that you brand yourself as the expert in your field.

This is because if you can brand yourself as the expert, it will be a lot easier to sell your products and services to people because you have more credibility.

People trust you more than they trust your competitors, because you are the known expert in your field.

For example, let’s say you want to send a document or package out of the country and you want it to be delivered fast and safe, which shipping company would you choose?

If you live in the US, you’d probably choose FedEx, UPS or USPS right?

Because those brands are what comes to mind naturally when you want to send something over to someone else.

Let’s illustrate a few more examples:

If you are thinking of luxury cars => Mercedez, BMW, Audi

Keyboard and mouse for your PC => Logitech

Mp3 player => iPod

Home video games => Nintendo Wii, PS3

Internet Marketing forum => Warrior Forum

As can be seen from the above, if you can brand yourself as the expert in your field, you have a lot to gain because people trust and respect you, and you don’t really have to do a lot of extreme sales pitches just to be able to make sales.

I’m not saying you don’t need a good sales letter to entice visitors to buy, I’m just pointing out the fact that if you already have a brand of your own, selling to people becomes much easier.

On top of that, you will also get free publicity due to word-of-mouth marketing and other sites linking to you out of their own accord as well. Hey, you are the expert here, so who else better to link to other than the expert himself?

To recap, by branding yourself as the expert in your field:
- you have more credibility compared to your competitors

- with more credibility, it will be a lot easier for you to sell products and services (your own products and services as well as affiliate products and services)

- free publicity: your name/brand will be exposed to more people due to word-of-mouth marketing that doesn’t cost you a single cent. And this doesn’t end here, because other sites will be linking to your site out of their own free will since you are the ‘celebrity’ in your field

All these mean that more and more people will get to know you, your potential customers will increase, and eventually you will sell more products and services.

The end result is you make more money and profits!

Now that you know the importance of branding yourself as the expert, you might be thinking: “How do I position myself as the expert in my field?”

Below I’m going to share with you 5 ways on how you can do just that:

1. Always keep yourself updated

Everything is moving at lightning speed. If you don’t keep up with the latest developments and news in your niche, you can forget becoming an expert.

Even if you are already an expert, you still need to keep yourself updated. If not, you will lose your expert status anytime.

2. Give away Free, valuable content on a consistent basis

If you are currently a nobody and you want to become somebody, you need to give away Free, valuable content on a consistent basis to your readers.

The key here is to give valuable content that your readers can use. Do not just give “rubbish” content that will not benefit them in any way. Your readers are not stupid and yes, they can tell the difference between great and poor content.

It is also worth keeping in mind that simply giving away valuable content once is not enough. You need to do that on a consistent basis.

3. Be someone who is likeable

It is always good to strive to be a person who is likeable. Here are 2 ways to achieve that:

- don’t be arrogant

- be helpful to other people in need of help (yes, even though they are not yet your customers)

4. Attach your name and picture everywhere

Put your name and picture everywhere you go. Yes, this is narcissism at work but you really need to just do it so that people remember who you are and what you look like.

Keep in mind that this is your brand we are talking here!

5. Promote only quality products and services

Whether you are an affiliate marketer or you have your own products and services, be sure to provide only quality products and services to your readers. Do not promote low quality, crappy products just for the sake of making some quick money. It will hurt you in the long run because they will not trust you anymore. Worse, they might even bad-mouth your name to other people.

On the other hand, if you promote high quality products that can solve their problems, they will thank you and might even refer you to their friends. This is the power of referrals.

So there you have it, 5 ways to help you become an expert in your field. Be sure to put them into practice and you will become an expert slowly but surely.

    Thanks for the helpful post.

However, branding isn't just cut and paste at times. I would say...be creative and different.

I have a strategy for branding my online persona (not my name Sarah Harvey but something else) on the worldwide web-

"I am everywhere on the web, where it matters."

Last I looked on yahoo, for my unique online persona name, I have 989 results.

    On google: 1200 results.

The best part is where people take your content and display it in different languages. It was great seeing my stuff on Taiwanese sites.

It's the start of an empire. ^__~

I don't disagree with any of your points, but I do think there's something that doesn't add up and it's your use of examples in relation to your main point.

Your main point - 'it is very important that you brand yourself as the expert in your field.'

      Your examples -

      Fedex, UPS, USPS

      Mercedes, BMW, Audi

      Nintendo, Sony

If we leave Warrior out because it slightly confuses the issue (the users ARE the product) the reason that those brands come to mind in terms of trust and respect, has less to do with branding and much more to do with the fact that they have a reputation for delivering quality, reliable products.

I'm not suggesting for one second that those companies don't spend an enormous amount of time/money on developing their 'brand' BUT I'm saying that in terms of them springing to mind when a customer thinks about trust and respect it is much more to do with them following through with a product of the highest quality than it has to do with them branding themselves as experts or anything else.

So if you want to learn from them and follow their path, branding comes into it, but first and foremost develop a reputation for consistently delivering quality products.

Many companies have tried to brand themselves in the same mould, but because it was a lie and their products were not actually as good, the customer saw through the false branding attempt. Most companies suggest that their product is the best/of high quality - it would be foolish not to (much of the time). But the consumer understands this and when they see 'our burgers are healthier than the rest because we reduce the amount of salt in them' they automatically assume that because it wasn't mentioned, the burger is also full of fat, artificial colourings and flavourings etc - but has slightly less salt than others.

What matters to them is that when they put on more weight and feel less healthy, they realise that salt is irrelevant and it was all spin. But it's almost a universally accepted fact that Germans make reliable longlasting cars (BMW, Mercedes, Audi.) And this is not anything to do with marketers branding them this way, but everything to do with consumers KNOWING from experience that those cars 'do what it says on the tin.'
