advice for a newbie , affiliated marketing

OK, bare with me, I've only discovered this forum and the entire concept of affiliated marking today but have been doing some research and thinking. I want to share my first simple idea (be kind) for feedback and well, to see if you think it would make any money. By no means am I looking to make a fortune straight away but would like to develop my understanding and well make some money

Hypothesis:

I could write an light article, say about tourism in Spain, off beat places to visit ect. (I think i would actually enjoy this). I could use software like magic article writer to send that to lots of article directories. I could include in that article an affiliated amazon link to, say, sunscreen? This would be published with the link and i would make a percentage if someone clicked and bought on amazon...

if i sent out several articles a day, i would generate an income.... ???? The articles would get published with the links in them ???

thoughts ???

Sorry, but article directories generally don't allow affiliate links (I'd be surprised if any do). It's best instead to write the article for your blog and get traffic to it. You can do this with other articles and link to your site at the bottom of your article, or you can link to your site via YouTube, forums, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

    Hi there,
I am a newbie, I am not an expert but I am learning, and what I am learning I am finding useful. I would get your self a blog with your own hosting, so people can get to know you. I am also going to do article marketing, if you make your self a blog, learn to drive traffic, provide good information to people, provide links back to your blog also..Learn how to build a an email list and you can learn email marketing, and how you can make some money that way. You can also put affiliate banners on there. It's all a learning curve, I am learning a bit, and implementing a bit.

    Hope that helps a bit

If you're going to do article marketing make sure you link back to your own website preferably a blog. On your blog you can promote more than one product. Having your own website adds credibility to your name or brand and people will be more willing to buy from you.

    It's called "bum marketing", John.

(If you do a search in Google for that term, in inverted commas, you'll doubtless find a lot of information about it - all of it probably very out of date!). I understand that it was very popular around 7-10 years ago, but it was already "a thing of the past" when I first got online in 2008.

Sorry to sound so disparaging, but there are actually many different reasons why it doesn't work any more. (I don't suggest that you'd absolutely definitely never make one single sale at all, that way, but in terms of opportunity cost, it's really a terribly unproductive way to try to earn anything online).

Prepare to be surprised: hundreds (of desperately poor quality article directories, and even some "better" ones) do. The catch is that they don't have any traffic to speak of, and their content doesn't rank on its own. You could rank them by building backlinks to them, but that would be very futile: who's going to do that rather than building backlinks to their own site?! ).

Not quite: it's best to write the article for your blog, publish it there first and have it indexed there, and then syndicate it elsewhere, as widely as possible to relevant sites (but not to mass article directories, for which Google will - rightly - eventually penalize you), and use the additional copies on relevant sites to draw targeted traffic to your own site's landing page. That's called article marketing and it does work, (as long as your articles are good enough for other webmasters with targeted traffic to want to publish them, natch).
