Just doing work for free without a plan is dumb. Add value and build a partnership. Have a clear goal. Oh, and also don't forget to reinvest your profits. Hire people. Buy advertising. I totally agree with this concept. Recently my sister was out of work and I suggested she find a company she wanted to work for and offer to work for them for free for 2 weeks to prove to them she was capable. Think of all the people companies interview, and no one in their right mind would ever make an offer like that. Its the great Jay Abraham strategy of providing value first, then asking for compensation later. If you can prove to a company that you are a valuable asset, they will not let you go. If I were to interview for a job today, that is the approach I would take. |

When I was starting out as a copywriter I did some of this and it can work. You do need to be thinking through asking for SOMETHING in return for your writing (a digital product the person sells for example). Also be aware that it won't lead to paid work unless you actually do great work for them AND focus on building a genuine relationship. Kindest regards, Andrew Cavanagh |

John, You're sharing some very powerful information. I hope people actually put it to use. I am applying the same *basic* concept to something else and hope it can bring a return of a $3,000 pure profit per client. I also learned of this from Jay Abraham. His book, "Getting Everything You Can Out of All You've Got" was the first business book I ever read. That was early 2001. I still remember some of the pages very vividly. Almost photographic memory. That's just how much of an impact his book was for me. |

I remember doing something to the effect when I first came to the forum. I wrote a couple of articles for fellow Warriors, albeit by starting a thread on the forum back then. It got me some good reviews and many suggestions as to where and how I can improve. Lot of business there ![]() Sagar |

Well, this makes very interesting reading but it only seems to work in Internet Marketing. I have spent my whole life giving free services but I suppose I did it wrong because it never occured to me that I should be expecting something in return. In the past forty years I have probably spent ten years giving free advice and support to cancer patients and their families. I have probably given away more cash and produce than I will ever again earn. People have lived in my home, eaten my food and used my posessions as their own because that is what my attitude to life dictates that I should let them do. NOW I discover that I should have been receiving stuff as well! Damn! Why didn't I think of that! |

In fact this is something you can do online and offline. A friend of mine was looking for a job after she graduated from university. Because it was really difficult to find a job in her home town, she is a journalist by the way. She offered free reports for this newspapers agency and after the third report,she was given a permanent job there.

I always tell people who go off to college to do as many internships as possible. It's a similar concept. You are providing a service for free. But you are getting something - a grade, and experience, and most of the time you get a job offer. But what is most valuable, as in your example John, is the relationships that are built.
