Where do article marketing and curation meet and are they good bedfellows?

What is curation? It is simply a summary of existing information, provided in short snippets.

What would curation have to do with any type of writing output -- blog posts, articles, news releases, etc? Curated content is simply the research materials that we might include in our articles.

I don't think they are bad bedfellows... I am just not sure which would be on top during intercourse. :p

So curation is a quickie then?

Or the complete long version including every essence and angle?

I don't think they would be good bedfellows because one is always going to end up frustrated regardless of which was on top!

Only in threads in the Warrior Forum, late at night, when nobody's looking.

I think curation is actually a very poor bedfellow for anyone/anything of any gender, orientation or proclivities at all. (And it's very often just a euphemism for "content theft".) In any case, it has nothing to do with article marketing.

...Only when the lazy partake of the curated content train...

Real honest curation is nothing more than telling the same story in a different way... The idea or the news item, in and of itself, is not copyrightable, only the words used to describe it.

Well, yes I would consider it to be the summary in short snippets, but from different sources rather than just taking bits from the one source.

I ask because I have been reading Curation Nation and it is quite interesting in that it makes a point re: the sheer amount of data on the net and if someone can
steer you through the best bits and both save time and show where to find quality info it is actually a benefit to the reader.

As for who's on top... LOL

When done correctly I don't see it as content theft. In fact it was reading through some of your helpful posts that made me think of it. You often guide people to other posts that are of help and illustrate a point.

Granted, I was reading them late at night when nobody was looking;-)

So is the idea a doomed one in (all) your eyes, or does it hold any merit if done conscientiously?

I hear you. I very rarely see it "done properly", though.

And the people who imagine that it's ok to curate as much as they want without getting each author's permission are just living in a macabre dream-world in which the "information" comes from people selling curation software/services: they deserve to get their sites taken down (which is exactly what tends to happen, of course, if an author sends their hosting company a DMCA takedown notice by email).

I don't see why not, if you really need it. (For myself, I think website content is generally a bit overrated, compared with email content. It's email content that makes the sales, after all.)

Personally, if I were so short of content that I wanted to get content for my sites from elsewhere, I'd far rather syndicate some high-quality content than curate it. And you don't lose as much traffic that way, clearly. (And even if you want to look at it only in SEO terms - which, of course, I don't - you also have to provide far fewer external links, to do it that way, which doesn't water down the strength of your internal linking structure nearly so much ).

So I wouldn't touch it, myself, to be honest.

Hmmm. Okay I take your points there.. I am curious about it, but more as an additional writing technique than anything else. But now that it has been opened up a bit more I can see that it would be useless with regards article marketing and on,y useful as a blog post.

Sheesh, tiredness really muddles my brain!

Maybe it isn't YOUR brain that is muddled.

Maybe it is Alexa's argument that is muddled. :p Especially when she said, "I think website content is generally a bit overrated," and "It's email content that makes the sales, after all," it became obvious to me that she is arguing her point with blinders on -- as if the way she does things is the only way it works.

My comments were slightly tongue-in-cheek, Bill. I've been discussing article marketing with Dave off the board, as well as on it. I should perhaps either have said so, or not commented in quite the tone I did.
