Day 4...no sales in last 2 days:(

Hello professional marketers!

I'm tired, frustrated, but surprisingly so addicted to this I can't get my regular work done! I had a big band of sales my first couple days, so was watching the live feed of people clicking on site like a goddamn schitzophrenic weirdo; bur now getting deadlines done in my regular job seems so....well,, you know....it sucks!

Anyone else in this kind of situation? (I have deadlines to meet in my regular job but luckily I have pull since most are my clients, but feel myself slipping away and not giving a rat's ass anymore)

Does ANY of this make any sense? Sorry...just ranting.....

Haha I fell ya man. Getting work done when your having success with business just sucks.

Business is addicting and I think the fact that we love to do this stuff will determine our success in the future.

I have gaps in sales, quite large gaps but overall my conversion rates are actually very stable. It's because I have a few low traffic sites of like <500 uniques a month. But if I go back and analyse 5,000 visitors it all starts to even out nicely.

It is easy to get carried away with making money online when it is put up against other stuff such as priorities at your job and such. However, just remember that those priorities at your job are indeed important, and so is your business.

Take care of what needs to be taken care of first, and you can always go back to the business at any time.

Now as far as your sales go, just because they have slacked off really doesn't mean anything much at all. That happens even to the best entrepreneur out there. Everybody has setbacks and failures. It is just that the big guns of online entrepreneurship don't tell you about the many many failures that they have in their own businesses. They only tell you about the successes and such.

Just keep plugging away, and if need be, find some other ways to drive traffic to whatever it is that you're offering, and maybe your conversions will rise and you will begin to see more sales.

Just hang in there, things will get better you'll see.

    Makes some sort of sense.

I also can't keep myself from checking site rankings and earnings a large amount of time.

If you blow off your responsibilities you're pretty much setting yourself up for failure. If you really want to make it in this business you have to be willing to work your ass off in it as well as take care of personal responsibilities and have a way to pay the bills til you make it..

Yeah, it's totally normal to start slacking off once you get a little cash or a little thrill of achievement...

Especially if you've been blowing it for a while. Handling success is just as hard as handling failure in some ways. But check it out, Gina: have you set some concrete goals for the amount of sales you want this (month/week/whatever) online? If you haven't, think about doing it.

You kind of need to... and I know this is a horrible metaphor... treat yourself like a horse and keep the carrot in front of you. Otherwise your brain goes "wow some sales" and you stop walking and start chewing on what you already did.

    Like I told you, horrible.

Thanks guys Appreciate all your valuable input! Luckily I have a few diehard clients in my "regular job".......so I'm getting up uber early tomorrow to get my crap done!

But right now I'm reading this forum....(I know).....I work in the legal field so I know I have to get this crap done, and will do it, but this is all so fascinating!

Make a plan and work on building your business and guaranteeing a regular income for you. You are lucky because you have a job and you are not trying to survive based on what you make online. Think that you are in a better position than many other people.

Someday you will be able to abandon your job and work only online without fears.

Thanks guys....My "job" has dried up considerably in the last few years due to the economy, which is why I've been looking for ways to make money online.

Long story short, I'm an independent contractor court reporter in Los Angeles. Sure, the money was GREAT about 10 years ago, but due to LA being broke and the closure of courthouses, people not being able to hire lawyers, business litigation down to nothing, etc., etc., I can barely pay my expenses! I have my own clients, which is great, but agencies I take work from are bleeding me dry.

Anyway, I know that's boring and all but just sort of venting here, I guess....I know people are struggling all over; and just glad to have this site to vent, get educated, and share ideas.

@GinaMSI - You are seriously in danger of becoming enslaved to your stats in the same way people get trained to constantly check emails or text messages on their mobile phones (I know people that can't stop themselves from checking their phone as soon as they hear the text alert notification). The solution is to set aside ONE time a day to check your stats and spend the rest of your time on more productive activities. Stats are important but only when they are used to focus and do more of what is already working and change(or abandon) what is not. The same goes with checking email - twice a day at the most. Tim Ferris dislikes dealing with emails as they are one big time suck (read 4 Hour Work Week).

So very true- checking your stats is addicting! and certainly NOT a productive use of time unless its for strategic analytics

Set it, forget it, and get your work done.

Then come back in the evening to check your stats.

It's really important to get this under control otherwise your levels of productivity will suffer.

It's best to get into a daily routine whereby you check your stats in the morning, get your other daily stuff done, then come back later, hopefully to a few sales.
