Generating traffic for my own product on Amazon

I'm a newbie to IM, so I've spent a few days soaking up as much as I can here. I'm just not sure if the lessons I'm learning apply to me.

I make a unique household product that existing customers love, is repurchased monthly, is just starting to gain some traction on Amazon, but is largely unknown. It's also soon to be available in several nationwide chains. The product goes for around $4.00 USD and has applicability and interest (our market research shows) to millions of people.

Our budget is pretty low at this point, getting production going is rough, but we've begun low-cost media campaigns, partnering locally with shops who are carrying the product, and wherever we can find them, we pick up local distributors or handlers for a commission who help sell-through.

But how is this done on the Internet? What is the process to build interest and following in an Amazon page or my own website? Is there someone who I can hire on commission, like in the real world? I'd happily give up 5% of online revenue to someone who's working to keep interest flowing.

I've worked as a web developer since web developers existed, so I'm happy to implement whatever will help, and I'm willing to do whatever hard work is necessary, I'm just not sure how to build a plan at this point.

    Affiliates.

But you'd have to give up more than 5%.

What's the typical rate? Does it come down with volume?

It depends on the product. Digital products usually pay out 50 - 75%. Services or physical products are more like 20 - 50%.

Some companies offer higher cuts for high volume affiliates.

If it's a new product but you have landed some nationwide channels already, publicise this fact as quickly as you can. Nothing helps better than prospective sellers knowing that seller A B or C is already on board.

If your budget is really low and you can't commit resources to a whole marketing initiative (SEO, emarketing, affiliates, cold calling etc) try to find a small PR firm that might want the challenge of landing you some national coverage, particularly if they have the same enthusiasm about your product as you do—if they think it's amazing are a pretty young PR firm (keen to show they can do a great job) they might take it on along the percentage of sales basis.

    Best of luck!

Thanks, it's falling down on this sort of "obvious" thing that lack of experience causes.

Is there a place where PR firms are rated or reviewed? It's such a wild frontier to a newbie.
