Hi

I have an old wordpress website with GoDaddy that is on a VPS. Want to take the entire site and migrate over to a new account not on a VPS.

Any tips or tricks to simplify this task?

there are a couple of plugins available that will clone the wp site and then allow you to reinstall on another host.

Hey,

You can use any of these plugins:
WordPress › Duplicator « WordPress Plugins
WordPress › WP Clone by WP Academy « WordPress Plugins
WordPress › WordPress Move « WordPress Plugins

Another very good one (but costly) is WP Twin - Clone & Backup WordPress Blogs In Seconds

If all those fail, you can always do it manually which is not that hard either. Let me know if you need help.

Hi,

I have done it hundreds of times

, it is simple easy process!
I mostly use manual process i.e.

1. Backup your Database from GD phpmyAdmin

Backing Up Your Database « WordPress Codex

2. Backup your files from GD

3. Create DB and import database into it at new host
Restoring Your Database From Backup « WordPress Codex

4. Upload files to new host which you backed up at #2

5. change the database login info in wp-config.php file
5a. test the site working on new host with some temporary ip/url your
host provide to test new site without actual domain.

6. Change the DNS in your domain to connnect it to new server.
This process works most of the time. As you are not changing the
domain name so almost all URLS will work just fine from new host
like it did at current host.

Appreciate all the replies and advice. Will give it a go on Monday or reach out to one of you if I need help. My work load is very high and one of the sites is being a major pain.
