How did you conduct your market research?

Since everyone is doing different things the process is going to vary a lot but has anyone here ever carried out market research for selling their ebook or for their membership website?

I am wondering because so far my methods of doing this type of research would be google keyword tool to check demand and mostly just assumption based on the way other vendors/sellers are going about it?

If anyone has any tips on market research pertaining to the launch of an ebook or a membership website I'd like to hear it or any market research methods you have used for anything in the past that yielded good results.

    You can read forums, blogs and social media pages where your target audience spends their time. asking them directly or starting a thread in a related forum is an option. you really want to understand their frustrations, what they think about when they wake up in the morning etc. you could hire a virtual assistant to do this.

    For product ideas you can look at what the most popular searches are on Amazon or even ebay.
    Google Trends also can yield ideas.
