I have a blog with a optin and I've gotten around 250 subs in the past 3 months. I felt like that was pretty good, I've been sending them a biweekly newsletter on my blog posts and I have finally released my ebook. I sent out a message about my ebook and thought it would be a little more receptive because my audience is very condensed and I would think willing to buy the book.

A little background - my blog is about recruiting and interviewing for a major (which is one of the largest majors) within a competitive industry (not investment banking, but similar). My ebook (29.99) is a recruiting and interviewing guide that honestly, if I was going through the process would have paid for.

Anyways, I only got 1 person to buy the book from everyone on my list - and I offered a $10 off coupon, so I made $20.

I have gotten purchases (6 since the release a week ago) outside of the ebook, and I'm wondering if a email list is something that I really need - or if aweber is a necessity. I hear so much about how building a list is so important, but I'm not sure I'm seeing the results.

I'm wondering if $20 a month is worth it for aweber.

Thoughts?

I'd say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Having said that, I know a lot of people here swear by Aweber, but signing up for them isn't necessarily going to up your conversion rate.

I guess my next thought is how did you get those 250 subscribers? If they signed up for free, they don't carry much value and your job to convert them into buyers is already an uphill battle. Now if those 250 subscribers are on your list from a previous ebook sale, we'd have a different story.

The idea with list building is that it's a long term thing and shouldn't be considered as an immediate source of revenue. If you sell enough products, over time you'll have developed a list of individuals who have already spent money. And research would show that those individuals are more likely to buy from you again.

The ebook i offer is a compensation guide (which I have researched and is pretty exact) however a lot of them may be coming from different industries that are just curious.

Not sure if I totally understand your product, but the first thing that came to mind when you said "compensation guide" was Payscale.

Could it be that your eBook is just generally not well received because freely available information is accessible elsewhere? You could make the argument that most products are just a regurgitation of freely available information all over the web, but the way I see product creation is basically content curation: bringing everything together.

Let me know if this helps,
    Ben
