We came up with an idea, we just need to ask.

hello guys,
we(me and my brother) just had this idea, and since we are still newbies, we need to know if it is worth going for it. here is the idea:

we will create a website something like this :"coolstuffthatyoushouldtry.com" (of course, with a better brand), and we will put an affiliate product each 3-4 days that we think it is interesting or worth trying.

after that point, we think(and we may be so damn wrong, we don't know) we will only need traffic and a very large list. the list doesn't need to be spesific, since stuff on our website will be random(and interesting). will this work? or is it a dumb idea?

thanks in advance, have a great one.

you have a solid point. but we are planning to be the guys who picks stuff worth checking out and introduce to them. so, people will avoid boring stuff. as i said tho, you have a point.

        Philip,

Yes, there are some very talented people that have turned this idea into gold; but there are many more, I'm guessing, that have crashed and burned.

In a sense, the idea is the same general thinking as those who build "review sites." They offer their advice to others in the hope of making a commission when the referred makes a purchase. The model can be profitable in certain instances, but most often viewers come to get information and not necessarily to follow a link and make a purchase.

The biggest challenge I think you'll face is two-fold. First, you'll have to get lots of traffic on a daily basis to visit and spend time on your web site. Next, you're going to have to get lots of clicks going through your links from traffic that is not really targeted or prepared to make a particular purchase. Finding lots of "impulse" buyers is never an easy thing.

And just because you think something is cool . . . well, the information highway is littered with the bodies of entrepreneurs that were proven wrong.

Regardless, I wish you great success.

    Hello,

This sounds like a review site. Creating a site essentially giving information to a person ready to buy is a lucrative opportunity. You have people that are basically ready to buy, but want to know more about that product before hitting the buy button

I spent a day on making a review site and made $328 the next day and then re-curring. I have never touched it since and still makes $

So, i would advise, there's a few mechanics behind it. Importantly you need to do your research. Depending on the niche you wish to address, say for the Wealth generation niche, you can use sites like Jvpro notify and look at upcoming product launches, and review the products.

You can look at Google trends and actually analyze what is happening in the marketplace and make smart choices. However make sure to create a you tube channel and frequently make videos. You WILL get Traffic. Make a facebook fanpage and you should create a subscription section and capture prospects. As you can always inform them of other related products they may be interested in.

However, Focus one product first instead of 50. Get ready for Christmas as review high end products as people during Christmas do a lot of spending and have more income to spend. you can create review blogs now for high end product and can rank highly by Christmas

However, remember all the aspects around site development, seo, social sharing, indexing, links, sharing, there a number of many other things to cover but you should be fine!

    Hope this helps

No reason you can't make your idea or dream work.

My questions to you are this:

    1) How do you plan on building a huge list

    2) How do you plan on getting traffic

    3) Where is your target market hanging out

If you can answer these questions intelligently, you are that much closer to making a review site successful.

But to think you can't do it is silly. You can.

I would focus on Facebook. Create a fanpage today and start posting links to random cool products. You don't have to setup all the commission stuff as yet, you just want to start getting people interested in the page and commenting on and liking your posts so you can start to build a following. I would then run like ad campaigns to build up that fan page nice and quickly.

Once you have a following you can then send people to the products on your site each day. You would want some way to collect their email address during the purchase as well. So maybe you send people over to check out the product on your website. You then have a link or a box where they can enter their email to get a special discount link or coupon code for that product. So you are also building your email list at the same time.

The goal is to end up with a big fan page AND a big email list so you are hitting people from both angles AND if anything were to ever happen to your fanpage, you still own the email list.

I probably should have weighed in on some of your earlier questions about where to get started.

Here's the bottom line, you DO NOT start with a website.

You DO NOT start with a domain.

You DO NOT start with a business model.

    Etc.

The foundation of making money is one simple thing, learn to buy something for less than it's worth so you can sell it for more. There are lots of pieces to this, in a business it means: buying customers/sales, buying mastery of a field, buying goods/services to sell.

Let's get specific. You need something to sell to your traffic and in order to make money on that something you need to buy it for substantially less (usually 50+%) than you sell it for. If you're creating your own information product how long does it take you (time value) and how many copies can you sell at what price? This is why info products are some of the easiest to make money off of because you have virtually no cost of goods sold. If it's an affiliate product how much margin do you have? (Realistically, it's probably going to cost you around $50 to acquire a customer so you want to aim to recoup that full amount on the first sale, meaning you want about a $50 profit early in your sales funnel unless you've got an incredibly low client acquisition cost (this comes primarily from virality) or incredibly great retention along with cash to sustain the interim. Probably you have neither of the later two so you want to be aiming to recoup that $50 approx. right out of the gate. Everything after that is gravy.

To do the business and get the clients you're going to need expertise of some sort, there are lots of ways to get this but the best way is generally to focus on something you already know and are interested in if possible because then your costs are virtually non-existent/already paid for, this will also give you the drive to keep doing it which you won't have when targeting random niches you don't care about. By caring about a field and having expertise in it you'll be able to produce high quality content, which will attract and retain an audience, which is what you're going to need to do (unless of course your platform/service does that on its own).

The last part is you need to be able to buy customers cheap. Above I mentioned the client acquisition cost of $50 each on average. Those numbers are based on a $1/click cost with a 20% conversion rate (pretty reasonable on most traffic, any better isn't a safe bet), and then a 10% conversion rate to actually buy. Hopefully, you can do better in all areas, with solo ads for example you can buy clicks cheaper than $1 each and if the solo ads are targeted to a well designed landing page you might be able to get better than 20% opt-in rate, potentially as high as 50% if your offer is good enough and well targeted enough.

Now that we've covered the basics above regarding the importance of low costs across your business since they are what will allow you to make money (you'll never make money if you have to pay too much for traffic, don't make enough profit off the product, or it's too costly for you to learn how to do it all) let's get into some details of how you do this. The specific area to focus on is getting customers/sales cheap.

Lots of people focus on cheap traffic but that's the wrong approach, what you want is a low customer acquisition cost. You can get a ton of cheap traffic that doesn't convert and you're wasting your time. Part of the key to achieving a low customer acquisition cost is to do a phenomenal job of targeting. Here's why, you have to pay in a sense for everyone who sees your ad, you might pay less if they aren't targeted but you pay for each regardless. The better the ratio between impression you paid for and person who bought the lower the cost for each will be. In other words let's say I am paying for 10 000 views, I pay $1000 for those views and I have a 0.1% conversion (in other words 10 conversions off each 10 000 views). That means I paid $100 per customer. If on the other hand I could have targeted it down so I was only paying for the 100 highest probability views and paid even let's say $100 (ten times more per view) but had the same 10 conversions, then my cost per customer acquisition is only $10.

This is why it's so important to pick a niche especially early on and a very tight one, because you can drop your customer acquisition cost substantially.

Bottom line, having something really generic like you're talking about that isn't very well targeted is probably a bad idea right now, you need to really pick a certain type of customer and go after them, if you say had cool adventure trips to go on that would be more specific and doable, or cool restaurants in New York to visit, or cool types of clothing, or cool skateboards, etc. You need to be focused around a particular market though.

I'd start with WillR's idea of building a Facebook fan page, and maybe a Pinterest board.

Since you say you want to pick random cool things, posting them on FB and Pinterest, and doing some preliminary promotion, will give you an idea of how many people resonate with what you think is cool.

You may find that thousands agree with your picks, because you get likes, shares, repins, etc.

You may find that the whole thing is a dead zone, and no one cares.

In the first case, you then proceed to a domain and blog to build your brand around.

In the second case, you go back to the drawing board.

I think it's a really good premise, but you do need to focus on one niche. I learned the hard way to FOCUS on one idea. Also, be positive about your skills, sounds like you are already ahead of the game with how you are talking. All the best!

Hey there. Your idea is not a bad one.

So here is where I would start. Okay you know what you want to create. So you reverse engineer the whole darn thing.

In order to get the amount of people on your list that you are going for you will have to have several different marketing strategies. I think the three that would work well for this would be YouTube, Facebook, and Pintrest.

You know you want to sell different types of products. So each of those products are going to be part of a certain category. Those categories will need to be on your site. I would also make a capture page for each of those categories that you can include at the end of each blog post review you create, instead of putting them on one massive list. That way you have your list segmented into categories as to what they like. You don't necessarily want to send a vacuum review to someone interested in biz ops or biz tools.

So lets run through how I would use this model if I were going to create a blog like this. I would pick a product I wanted to review that I thought would help others. I would get the product, test it out, have a list of pros, cons and what I or in your case we really liked about it.

I would make a video testing it out, using it, showing the features and showing all the pros and cons. Upload it to Youtube or your video hosting server. I would already have the blog post written and I would embed the video in it. Lastly I would put the capture page of the category it is in at the bottom and publish it. Then take the link to the blog post and put that in the description of the video.

Oh I forgot to mention I would also create a Facebook Fan Page for each category and a Pintrest board for each category. I would share the blog post/or the video on the Fan Page. Be sure to vary them up to get the best results and post it on the wall. Then go to your blog and pin a picture of your product

This sounds like a lot of work and it is, but it gets much easier when you have done it over an over again. Nothing starts off perfect and knowing what to do and where to go next when you are first starting out is no different.

I would also like to note here that many people believe that blogging is marketing. And to honest that is true, but a blog in my opinion is more like your hub where people can get to know, like and trust you. And all your other social media should be linked to it.

Also with separating into categories you could create reports and such for each category that you could use for driving traffic to.

Have an awesome weekend. And your idea is totally doable. Never give up on your dreams. Being new can be overwhelming, but just keep learning and work a little each day.
