Would Adding "Patent Pending" to marketing material help?

My business is doing some innovative things. I'm considering submitting a provisional patent application. What I'm wondering is if anyone has any information on whether or not using "Patent Pending" in my marketing material will have any impact on sales. Does it send the message that we are a unique product?

I'm honestly more interested in getting this patent as I think it will add value to my business in the likely event of an acquisition.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

EV

If you really think about, the patent is of no value whatsoever to your customers. It only has value with regard to you and your competitors - especially those who would like to copy it.

In truth patents are of limited value as only small changes in design can warrant a new patent application, and they cost an arm and a leg to defend.

Sorry to be the bearer of such discouraging news. The best a patent will do is scare off some people from imitating it. But if you get your product made in China, watch out!
