hello, i'm looking for the best ways to drive traffic to a gaming site.
Can you suggest a few traffic sources, or just the methods working best for you.

Thanks

Are you willing to pay for the traffic? Otherwise it's good old fashioned SEO and backlinks!

      Why?!

What's wrong with all the other, unpaid, non-SEO traffic-generation methods of which the forum's so full of discussions? Don't you think, given this niche's traffic demographics, that they might actually be the best ones?

Try promoting your website on other gaming websites/forums. You want to first link to websites in your own niche, that's very important. You might also try a Google Adwords campaign which is basically just paid advertising.

On Twitter, start following twitter users that follow or are followed by poker players, casinos, hotels, etc. Build a following and start interacting. Put your website's link in the profile and make it a business Twitter account, not YOUR account. Retweet often news in the gaming world.

On facebook, post your links to like pages that are related to your website. Maybe post your links to the Bellagio's like page if they allow posts.

On Linkedin, join 50 gaming related groups. Then, post your links to those groups to help drive traffic.
Finally, focus on your SEO both on page and off page - this is the key to getting free organic traffic from Google. Gaming websites are competitive but it's a billion dollar industry, there should be plenty to go around for you.

Why not promoting your site on game forums? You can search forums on Google.

Driving good (targeted) traffic on a website is probably the most important piece of the puzzle.

Without traffic it is quite useless to have a website, because you may write the best content out there that would remain unread.

Basically, there are two type of traffic: paid / organic.

If you are just beginning out there, I would start with organic traffic: it means Social Media Traffic and SEO Optimization.

Browse the forum in the proper sections, and start trying to drive traffic by capturing visitors with long tail keyword optimization on your site.

    Hope this helps

Where does your main target market hang out online?

    What keywords are they using?

Advertize where they are and be a known face.

SEO is great but results does not come instantly like Google adwords. It can take months and then you have look at the conversion.

The most effective and permanent way to drive traffic is through on page and off page optimization. And these are the parts of SEO. So, learn SEO and try it on your website. Without SEO, you couldn't get any permanent visitors.

Is that PC gaming or gambling gaming?

If it's PC gaming I would hit the numerous forums and Social sites first.
That will leave SE traffic in the dust

I'd start with gaming forums if you want free traffic. I'm also having some great success in another niche with content syndication, but it works for any niche and builds you some huge backlinks.

Start with brand building on forums. Be helpful, answer questions and get a feel for what people are talking about and what kind of news info is missing for the gaming fans you'll be targeting.

I love starting with the forums. They a GOLD mine for content ideas.

Your traffic will come via links in your sig.
