Investing in Your list?

I know loads of people say that the money is in the list, so should you spend money on your list. I mean by setting up a good free ebook on a nice converting page and buy traffic for the page?

I was thinking of saving up a Thousand pounds, spending 200 on testing and then the other 800 on getting people on my list.

I would like to hear what other people have to say on the subject. Is it worth it in your opinion to spend a lot on your list?

Setting up a good free e-book and having a nice converting page involve almost no money at all (if you have the skills to do them on your own - but they're not hugely difficult skills to acquire). What you're really asking here is whether you should use paid traffic, isn't it?

The short answer is that it depends on your traffic-generating plan. You can become successful at listbuilding using either paid or free traffic (or a mixture): they're two different routes to the same very worthwhile place.

It can be argued that there's no such thing as "free traffic" anyway, in the sense that if you're not paying with money, you're paying with time, effort, energy, skills and labor.

Personally, I don't use any paid (i.e. with money) traffic at all, at the moment. I have, a little, in the past, and I may do again at some future time.

But your question is actually "Paid or unpaid traffic?", I think. And there isn't an objective "right answer" to that. Either can work successfully. Either can fail completely. It all depends on your skills, and what sort of traffic-generation plan you come up with, for your business.

Yes that was my question. I should probably have just got straight to the question rather than beating around the bush lol. Im far to colloquial. My english teacher always said that.

Yes, assuming i have the ebook and the page is converting as best as it could, and i found a converting traffic source, would it be WORTH it to buy the traffic, or would i never make the money back?

No one can answer that question right now.

What you are trying to work out is ROI - Return on Investment.

It would depend on click through ratio's, conversion ratios and of course commissions from sales. You don't know either of those yet so you can never work out if you will make a return on your investment. These will all differ depending on niche, quality of your list and quality of your content.. amongst other things...

What big companies/successful entrepreneurs do is test with a little bit of money (say $100) and see if you break even or better. If you do, then you repeat, if not, then you rethink, tweak or get out.

And if you break even or better twice, see if there's a pattern you can test with another traffic source.

You talked about sinking 20% of your budget into testing. I'd reverse that and allocate 80% to testing and retesting, a little bit at a time. Once you have at least one source that makes you money (either on the initial effort or the back end), start ramping that up with profits from earlier efforts.

Yes it is definitely worth it to get subscribers fast and for split/testing.

But in your specific case, i wouldn't go with paid traffic now since you are on a budget but instead focus on free traffic strategies. There are plenty.

Both free and paid traffic work well; the first one requires hard work(you gotta be consistent each and every day, this is why its important to have a detailed traffic plan to follow). With paid you can skyrocket your traffic FAST.

So starting with free traffic is probably the best way to go for you at the moment.

Buying traffic is essential in my opinion...at least to begin with, as it lets you test how your squeeze page and funnel converts. Free traffic is too slow and when it comes from all over the internet is hard to draw conclusions from.

Transferring knowledge that your readers can turn into skills is investing in your list. No need to shell out a lot of money for that.

I like spending money to build my list. I love it actually. It's a fast and easy way to get new leads, and if you want more leads... just run more ads.

I'd watch your initial spend output until you've learned the ropes. Just because you have a list doesn't mean you have buyers. You still have to get them to open your mail and then you have to get them to click through. You could throw a lot of money away real fast if you're not careful. Read up on conversions and how to write effective sales copy, etc. Get good at this before you start buying Google ads.

    Good luck!

you can invest on solo ads to help build your list.
experiment on ur squeeze page, sometimes adding/changing something
can even increase optins by 20%

but a list is also nothing if you don't have a relationship with them, so be smart on
    ur investment.
