Domain Name/Website Price? I need suggestions.

Hey Fellow Warriors,

I have a website called FightsDepot.com. I bought it not too long ago because there's a facebook page called "The Fight Depot" and they have 850k likes. They were always talking about how Facebook would ban a video, so I thought it would be a good idea to create a website to post videos on, and socially share the link on the facebook page. I figured it would help drive traffic to the site because of the viral effect.

Well, basically, I lost interest in updating it with new videos. Nor, have I monetized the site. Today, I contacted the owner of the Facebook page. My inital offer was to get him to be a moderator, but he said it would only be beneficial to me (which is true). He's interested in buying it, but I'm not sure for how much. I don't think he has a large budget, so I'm just a bit stomped if I should sell it to him, find another buyer, or continue to build it up.

Anyone have any suggestions for me? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. :-)

~Nakita

I would give him a good low price and be done with it. Since you only have one buyer and it's a "not so in demand" name, this is your best bet if you want to unload it.

    Good luck!

    What a dark site...

It does not look like there is any monetization happening now - that would usually be the guide for pricing.

If you have no passion for it, and you have someone who wants to buy it, I would sell at whatever he offers. It is not a great domain, and it looks like it would not be hard to replicate what you have on it.

Hesitate now, and the likely scenario is that you will still be sitting on it at renewal time, with no progress and no buyers in sight.

Grab the opportunity while you can. It is not worth much.

Thanks for your input, but why isn't it a good domain name?

IMO, and I have been in the domain space for 15 years now, it is just not special enough to have any extraordinary value. Off the top of my head...

... It lacks broad appeal. Very few people, if any, are going to type that in (or think of it on their own, which is another way of saying the same thing)

... The first of the two words (fights) is plural in an unintuitive way.

... "Depot" implies a product or marketplace of some sort, where "fights" or fight videos are not exactly something that fits that expectation.

Putting aside any personal negativity I have for the subject matter, I don't think this domain is going to be much of a draw. Obviously, if you continued development and began to see search engine love for it, that would render my opinion pretty meaningless.

I agree with Jack. I'd take what is offered and dump it.

Usually web site will be valued with the formula - profit*12 months

      Say you are getting $100.00/month then it will be valued - 100 x 12 = 1200.

That is how I sold two of my domains. One hosting and other one a blog.

Hi Nakita, I agree with Jack's assessment. I'd be happy to get back the registration fee and a little more. You would be doing great at $100.

Please don't take this the wrong way - I don't mean it dismissively or impolitely at all, but for myself, I'd really be pleased to get anything for it at all. It's not immediately apparent to me that it has any real value, and I wouldn't think it would be at all easy to re-sell.

      Just remember . . .

      Typically in sales negotiations:

The first one that names a price loses

Ask the seller to make an offer. Counter if you like, or just take the offer. Like others have said, you don't sit in a commanding sales position in this case.

      Good luck,

You'd have to keep the price pretty low because of the lack of monetization. Seems to be the norm these days for web flipping.

Well, thanks everyone. I guess I should avoid buying domain names unless I really plan on using them. I have a lot of them that I thought would be worth something, but I see I was wrong. Guess, I'll just sell it and move on. :-(

So I have some other domain names that I'm not actively doing anything with. Are any of them worth doing anything with? If so, what's the best way to monetize them? Google ads?

Those are actually much better. They are worth holding. However, it's all just speculation until you take the time to research each market and see if there is a large enough pool of potential buyers. A domain that looks nice is not always marketable.

I like qrmobilecash.com and collegegiveaway.com. Those are both fertile ground for development in particular.
