Need Help Snatching A Domain Back!!!

Hi Warriors,

A year ago, I saw this domain that I needed for something really special. I mean really important such that I offered to buy the domain from the owner. After the purchase, the owner sent me back my money telling me that he does not wish to sell it again.

I got this messages on the site's url when I typed it out today "This domain name expired on 09/22/2013 and is pending renewal or deletion." Parked on Godaddy's servers.

The challenge is that I know of enom, sedo and a few sites that helps with back ordering and snatching of domain names. However, I need someone who has done exactly something like this to help me with their own experience because I need this domain name badly. I wish to make it a brand.

The owner allowing it to expire even for some short few days, allowing their site to be taken off means that they DO NOT value the domain as much as I do.

I WILL REALLY APPRECIATE ANY GREAT ASSISTANCE.

Your opinions are highly welcome no matter how little.

Blessings.

This is just a guess, I don't know if it will work.

Check GoDaddy auctions for the domain name. I think I read somewhere that GD will put expired names up for auction, but you won't get it if the original owner renews in time.

I also think you have to wait around 70 days after expiration for the name to officially drop and be able to be registered again.

If I cared that much about name I would hire professional service to get it for me. after fees it would still likely be less than few thousand which is peanuts if you really want it. But you should know you really want it. Once I picked up domain guy asked 5k for, I got him down to 800 eventually, and in the end it just did not work out for me and I was just out my cash as I did nothing with it.

My experience with expired domains has been that even when I no longer want them, I keep getting asked to renew them, for few months after they expire. And if I looked them up from different account, they are not on the market.

So this person letting it expire will have at least couple month to renew it after its expired.

    There are several possible scenarios.

It could be that the current owner will simply let it expire and you are able to simply register the domain then.

As the name has some value for you it is better to use a back order service.

You could also contact the owner again and make an offer that he can not refuse.

If you suspect that the current owner simply has some personal issues and does not want to sell to you, you might ask a friend to negotiate for you.

If the domain value justifies it you might want to consider doing some additional research on the owner. Maybe there are problems on the other side that could facilitate a sale. For example the person might be in financial trouble now and an offer might come in handy.

It all depends on how much value this domain has for you.

It will enter GoDaddy Auctions around mid-month, so get yourself a GoDaddy Auctions account ($4.99/year).

Don't place a bid yet -- add the domain to your watch list so you can place a bid in the last 15 minutes or so. When you add the bid, add the most you're willing to pay, and GoDaddy will automatically minimize your bid via proxy bidding. This auction phase will last around 10 days.

Assuming you win the auction and the current owner doesn't renew during the remainder of GoDaddy's redemption period, the domain will be pushed to your GoDaddy account within two weeks after auction close, meaning it'll be all yours by mid-Nov, with the current WHOIS creation date as a bonus. (GoDaddy won't return the domain to the registry, so it doesn't need to go through the registry-level redempton period and doesn't need to drop. You won't be competing with anyone using drop-catchers such as Pool, SnapNames, and NameJet.)

A client of mine left a domain to expire and then I think 60 days later I bought it again :-)

As the renewal from the company he used in the past wanted a lot of money to renew it...lol

    Result :-)

I'm curious. You say you want to turn it into a brand, have you checked all the social properties such as FB, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube for the name?

You can use this - Check Username Availability at Multiple Social Networking Sites

If they are all gone and branding is important. You could use a similar unused name just to make sure you have the same branding across all the platforms. This will save the hassle of chasing this particular domain.

If its a category killer or a .COM you just have to use, then JamesBorg explains the GoDaddy auction process clearly above. Best of luck.

JamesBorg gave the right advice. However, in the event it doesn't go to GoDaddy auction, (there are several reasons this may happen), place a backorder at NameJet.com and SnapNames.com for the domain once it reaches the last phase called "pending delete". Also, while it is in that last 5-day phase, watch it closely and try to snap it up yourself as soon as it is released on the fifth day. The only other way to take ownership of this domain is to make the current owner an offer he/she can't refuse.
