You havent told us about your niche. What have you decided on? How are you going to make money? What value are you going to provide your visitors? Whats your USP?

Start by figuring out a fundamental strategy before you get in to individual tactics.

USP is unique selling proposition. Basically it means, what can you do that other people can not?

I would start out doing research on baby sites. Find the largest sites/blogs in the industry and figure out what keywords they are ranking for and how they are making money.

I would then try my best to copy that strategy, starting from the bottom up and going for the lowest competition keywords with SEO.

I would suggest you take some time to learn how it all works.

    Start out with

Paul's Handy Little Guide to the Warrior Forum

Also You should join the WarRoom

The WordPress.org hosted and developed themes as is or a child theme based on them are in my opinion the best basis for developing a website for any niche. Installation of a custom header image is simple and will set your site apart from the crowd.

    twentyten

    twentyeleven

    twentytwelve

    twentythirteen

As far as your other questions, if you get 3 people responding to them, you will end up with 6 different opinions, take some time to sort things out. The War Room is one of the best resources anywhere.

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.

For the seo, you could use the all in one seo plugin (WordPress › All in One SEO Pack « WordPress Plugins) or joost's seo plugin (WordPress SEO Plugin). You don't need a paid theme to begin with. You can gain traffic using social networks like pinterest, facebook, write guest posts on website in your own niche. You can use adwords as long as you don't direct link to the affiliate product...you could link to a review of an affiliate product on your site.

Guest posting on blogs in your niche is great for google friendly backlinks. Reach out to other bloggers in your niche and ask to be a guest blogger.

Fabulous that you want to do online stuff and learn more. I agree that in many respects you will receive a whole different heap of potential opinions and potential strategies.

To date I agree with a lot of what has been said. I would suggest the following:

Prior to undertaking anything else - do your research, research, research - as suggested the Warrior Room can potentially be a great place to start and is very cost effective for the fee that is being charged; and also reviewing other websites in your niche for what they are doing.

Avoid where possible information overload - there are so many different ways and/or strategies to undertake things. From your research simply pick 1 strategy that takes your fancy and master this strategy before trying to incorporate another strategy; Then rinse and repeat which means master 1 strategy at a time.

The various Warrior Forum threads and posts can also provide heaps of information - it's a matter of taking the nugget of people's ideas and suggestions - maybe simply starting an Excel file or some type of document file - and writing a dot point on what the strategy is - and simply leaving it there. This way down the track you can open your file and decide which strategy or idea next to master ; and don't have to reinvent the research wheel.

Be consistent in mastering your strategy. Focus on one thing at a time. Maybe writing down what you hope to achieve and your ideas on potentially fulfilling this - kind of like developing (even in dot point form) a small plan for yourself and then reviewing this plan regularly to ascertain whether you're currently at; what tasks are still required to be done.

I attended a few seminars with an Aussie called Mal Emery - who is considered at the top of his field in marketing. What he trains is: Take the idea and then work backwards. What he means is take the overall idea and ask yourself what is the step prior to fulfilling this idea and then what is the step prior to implementing this step and so forth. (A slightly different way of developing a plan yet quite effective. Many people try and develop a plan from the perspective of using forward steps.)

    Hope this assists.

if i had a chance to do it all over again I would certainly get my on page optimization correct from the jump...I didn't understand that until I found a plugin that helped me with it....there are a lot of diff plugs avail as mentioned earlier in the thread. For my clients I recently did a review of the plugin SEO Pressor. I'm no SEO expert by any stretch of the imagination but getting your on page seo is well worth the time spent...done right the first time then you don't have to go back and get it straightened out later..So, if you want to check out the review I did you can see it here: http://internetmarketingscout.com/se...opluginreview/

In the spirit of full disclosure, I did this review for my current clients so my affiliate link is underneath the video. If you like the plugin and the review then grab it through my link. If no, just go direct. I don't care either way. I'm just trying to help out and give my 2 cents.

    Cheers, Duncan

I think you mean AdSense, not AdWords, don't you?

The answer is that you can, but I'd strongly advise you not to, for two main reasons ...

First, they have directly conflicting objectives. AdSense is a business model that pays you (typically very little) when people leave your site, but if you're an affiliate marketer, you clearly need people to stay on your site and to opt in, not to leave it. So the tiny amounts of money you might make through AdSense can easily cost you a lot more in potentially lost affiliate sales. Either you want a site that's designed so that people click an AdSense ad and leave it (there's an art to this), or you want them to stay. It's difficult to try to have it both ways.

Secondly, having AdSense ads on your site makes it look much more like a "typical marketer's site" and that has a negative impact on your credibility and the extent to which visitors trust you and are willing to rely on the strength of your representations - again, both things you want to avoid, for affiliate marketing.

Since you've mentioned "affiliate marketing", I think these four posts/threads can probably help you.
