Republishing content - what are the rules?

So I do know the rules from republishing Articles from a directory such as EA, but I'm on a project where I would like to republish news from Magazines, in specific BEAUTY Magazines.

Think about it as a Huffington post in the Beauty niche.

What in the TOS of the other websites I need to see that I'm on a safe side to republish some of their content?

And if I'm allowed to republish, does that mean articles and images?

Anyone with experience in that field?

You're going to have legal issues..

Even "fair use" laws limit the amount.

    You can't just copy everything.

No offense but you don't have to be an expert to know you are asking for trouble...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

I ask first to avoid a problem and as mentioned, there is allowed content syndication available, just don't know to what extend those apply to Magazines.

Maybe there was a way to publish a snippet with a link to the Magazine.

Now I know (thanks to Jasson and Weedy) that it is not possible.

So I have another question - what are RSS feeds good for from sites like Vogue?

Guess a RSS widget at my site is OK pulling content over RSS?

Seams like NEWS are OK to republish (those which appear in the feed) while the content written for a Mag is protected, what makes sense.

G, if you have a specific magazine in mind, just contact them and ask where you can find the guidelines. Look for a link called something like "media relations" or even "legal". Explain what you want to do, in general terms, and ask what is allowed.

If you get an answer, save it and follow it.

        Problem solved.

BTW, blanket "no you can't do it" answers are almost as dangerous as the "sure, you can do it" ones. Unless the answer to a legal question is coming from a lawyer specializing in that area and familiar with your particulars, the advice is worth what it costs.

Except for mine, here, that is...

Content syndication is allowed from article directories, because that's the purpose and function of article directories: they're depositories of content which may be syndicated subject to the terms of service of each directory (which will always include publishing the entire article without amendment and including the whole of the author's resource-box).

By putting a copy of an article into a directory, is author is giving the whole world permission to re-publish it subject to the directory's terms of service.

I would never do this without permission with content from any sites other than article directories. The general principle is that if you don't yourself own the copyright, someone else does, and if you re-publish it without that person's permission (which you do have, with an article directory, subject to the terms stated), "adverse consequences" can follow, to put it mildly!

Hey John, thanks for the advice about the "media relation" link (should have thought of this myself).

Alexa, you are off course spot on and I never republish any content without permission, that would be the kiss of death.

Due to this conversation I sneaked around and found yesterday a site which suits my needs.

Has something for every niche as far as I could see. This together with RSS will do it.

    Thanks to all of you
