Authority site project

Hello folks,

I have been thinking a lot lately to start something long-term & valuable. Since now I have been only playing around with niche sites and PPC and they work quite well for me. I'm making over 5 figures per month. Although my PPC campaigns are optimized and I'm doing whitehat SEO which means that my niche sites should stick on Google for long time, I still believe that a sites that only gets traffic from Google (PPC and organic) are not long-term stuff.

Right now, I have put some money aside ($30k) and thought I would start building a authority site. My goal is to make a site that makes 5k+ per month and is not relying on Google traffic. It doesn't matter whether I get there in 6 months or in 2 years.

Right now I have thought about building a site that gives career advice, advice from career specialists, job offers and maybe a discussion board etc - basically for people who are jobless. Nowadays, it's getting more harder and harder to get a proper job, especially when young folks (18 - 24) are mostly becoming hipsters and spending their time on FB/Twitter/Insta and being a scrubs.

Right now I have no idea how to monetize it, but that's not the main goal here. I just want it to get popular and then I'll see where it goes...

I was thinking of:

  • Hiring a full-time blogger who writes articles and manages FB account
  • Doing some SEO to get organic traffic -.I can do this by myself so it wouldn't cost much for me.
  • Outsourcing epic/valuable/comprehensive content
  • Start running FB ads to make FB landing page larger and maybe drive some targeted traffic to my site
  • Buying ad space on niche related sites/blogs
  • Branding a lot
  • Customly designed WordPress - $10k
  • Content marketing
I have never done anything like that yet I do believe I can do that. The only thing that's bothering me is that I'm not THAT passionate about this niche, yet I think it's lucrative.

The good thing about it is that I have somewhat good knowledge in generating traffic so this shouldn't be a problem for me.

Any advice or suggestions for me? I know that 30k is not much, but I can add 2-3k every month. Furthermore, I'm very interested on how real authority sites like techcrunch, mashable, monster.com started out. Is there any good articles and/or casestudies about something similar?

I'd save the $10k on a custom design and spend it
    on high quality content.

I agree with John. Your priority seems a bit backwards there, imo.

The writers who truly understand what Google wants demand high prices. Make sure you allocate accordingly. Basically everything in your list takes a backseat to quality content.

Also, don't expect your writer to manage your FB account, unless you're paying extra. When you get a per word quote from a professional writer they're quoting you for writing, and nothing else.

On the whole, you get what you pay for.
