What's Your Biggest "Ah ha" moment in online marketing?

It was many years ago that I had an "Ah ha" moment that helped me more than just about anything else with internet marketing.

It was something I read by T. Harv Eker and it was...

"Money flows to the people who are providing the most value"

It was at that point that I focused on giving away more good free content, free advice, etc... and of course, my sales went up.

I'm curious, what were some of your biggest "Ah ha" light bulb moments?

It was only a couple of years ago that one of our larger websites lost important Google rankings - which almost put that web property out of business.

Since that time, every website/business that our team builds must have an internet marketing strategy that does not rely on just one or two traffic sources.

That was a real "Ah ha" moment - NEVER rely on one traffic source

One of my biggest ones came from Dan Kennedy where he said that the worst enemy of business is the number 1 e.g. 1 major supplier, 1 customer, 1 key employee, 1 medium, etc. I took this to heart early on and it’s helped protect me from some rocky roads.

Another one is from Kennedy as well where he said that everyday you should aim to bring in some income AND some equity. So for a restaurant, you ring the cash register for the meal, but you should be trying to get email addresses at the same time; something that adds to the future value of your business.

Just a practical A HA moment was when I realized the profitability of Amazon FBA within the last year.

For me (and I suspect for many) it was my first sale years ago.

While it was only a $3.08 commission, I knew then that the process and power of a list actually worked - and that I could turn that into 6 figures with a bit of effort.

I agree with both Greg and twister, is when I found that building my list was where the real money came from.

Ever since I found that out, all my efforts have been to keep growing my list -- and retain the prospects I already have.

Yes, building a list is important. Though, I would say having a buyer list is more valuable than a freebie seekers list as they simply wont buy anything. I know as I used to take part in JV Giveaways but they are not the most responsive buyers that I know of though....

    1. Sell what you love - Because when you sell something for the profit margin, you'll never be able to connect with your customers

    2. Form relationships - Never underestimate the power of forming relationships with others in your niche, no matter how small or large they may be
