Joel Comm has been doing iPhone Apps for big-name companies and celebrities lately.

Not sure about affiliate programs, though.

Well, there are lot's of competition, my guess is that you have to offer something unique and really useful to get those great sales. My advice is think out of the box and try do something remarkable and market properly and you will sell lots of it.

Joel and our company also created iFart, the 16th most popular paid app of all time. We've got a number of new apps in queue as well.

iFart Mobile ? #1 App on iTunes - The Premier iPhone Fart Application

No affiliate programs that I know of besides iTunes...

Ha, I've got that one! lol

I've got tons of programming friends, and many of their friends pulled in six figures in a few months with apps... ahh to go back in time and take programming seriously when I was in school

They must be pretty advanced? They're not that hard to make from what I've been told?

Not sure who told you iPhone apps weren't that hard to make! There's an ebook floating around promoting that and it's so far from the truth if you want a decent app.

Eric,

Are you outsourcing the programming/development of it or doing it yourself?

Firstly, if there's anyone here who wants to take the plunge into learning iPhone Programming, do check out the Online iPhone Training Program offered by EDUmobile.ORG . They got Videos, PDF, Worksheets and One-on-One sessions / help with your own tutor. It'll cost you around $200 over 10 to 12 weeks. The course is for noobs.

@InfoAcademy - do check out EDUmobile.ORG ...not sure if thats the same one you are looking for. But they are not just an ebook .. its an entire course for 10 to 12 weeks.

@KWall - contact the guys at EDUmobile.ORG if you need any custom apps built. They do dabble in that space.

I wish I could post links here, as I have a list of some good online resources and stories about others like Joel Comm who have made a killing.... Steve Demeter made a simple puzzle game called Trism, and in 2 months he earned $250,000. Last December the app called iFart became the number one app on the App Store. It stayed on the top and raked in $9200 each day in profit after Apple's cut. Then, Ethan Nicholas, developer of the now famous iShoot game, earns $21,000 per day selling his iPhone app. Ethan quit his day job to work full time on the iPhone and he did not even know how to write Objective-C code before he made iShoot.

I'm interested in this course but cant see much about the people running the course. How much development experience, specifically in Objective C/Cocoa/Cocoa Touch have they got, what apps has the company published on the appstore etc?

Me and my friends learned iPhone programming from mycodeteacher.com Great video-training resource for that. You basically have 3 parts: Foundations, Basic Apps and Other Frameworks. Besides that I've also studied many books on that topic and I have to say: My Code Teacher does the job best. Totally recommend it.

Isn't the problem in this biz model that the barrier to entry doesn't exist?

for all the folks who have tasted success with iphone apps - there are thousands of those who havent made jack. It is a very competitive market and if you stand any chance of succeeding in that market - YOU HAD BETTER have an idea that is unique or better than what is out there, if you plan on getting any traction. Otherwise your app will end up like many others - itunes web fodder that clogs up the pipes.

really think of something good and then ask your peers that are involved in the niche your proposed app resides if they would use it or enjoy it.

Cheers,

I know this is an old topic, but I believe there is still money to be made in iPhone and Droid apps. Like you all said, you have to have a unique idea, and the right marketing. With Verizon adding the iPhone in February and possibly T-Mobile and Sprint following, new iPhone sales for 2011 should be in the 20+ millions. That's 20+ million potential customers for your app.

You don't have to reach them all, just have a good idea that turns into a good app that a subset of these millions of users want and like, and you have money coming in. Repeat for more money.

It ain't easy, and it ain't get rich quick, but it works.

It is unwise to trust all you read on the internet.
