How Are Affiliate Contests Done?

I'm about to launch a product, but would also like to setup an affiliate contest in the JV page. However I cannot find anywhere to set this up...

Are these contests done manually? (as in, collect affiliate stats, and place them in leaderboard manually as well, finally to send rewards manually, too?)

Sorry, first time. Any one with experience would be great!

Usually you'd use either software, or a wordpress plugin, or a third party service to do this... or hand code something to deal with this.
