Seasoned List Builders.....Build a relationship??

Many seasoned list builders have stated on numerous threads that the best way to sell a product is by building a relationship with your subscribers. Over the last year or so I have subscribed to a countless number of lists from countless people...most if not all are well know names on this forum. I have yet to get an email from any of them that truly builds a relationship. Each email contains an affiliate link or a link to their own sales page. None of the emails contain anything of real value. What gives? Are these "gurus" being hypocritical? Am I missing something? Why not practice what you preach??

Marketers used to give away a lot of free training (value) to other through their email marketing. However, when you give away a lot of free stuff, it mainly attracts people who are looking for free stuff and not people who are looking to buy.

It costs money to be in business. It cost money for you to learn.

Free (value) is not always the best way to go about it.

However, many successful marketers do offer value on the back end by assisting their team members become successful after they have joined their teams.

    I absolutely agree with you.

I too tried subscribing to lots of "Gurus" list to learn from their email marketing skills and they all just spam with affiliate links.

Even these "List building" Gurus spam their list with affiliate links.

No relationship whats so ever and thus unsubscribing...

yes you do need to build a relationship but at the same time you don't want to do that by giving away everything for free

the bottom line is to do what you think you should do

if you think building any trust or relationship with your subscribers is a complete waste of time then go test it for yourself and see where you are in 6 - 12 months time

all i have done is be honest and up front with my subs/customers and this has worked for me for building a good loyal fan base

if you really don't think that doing this will work for you then don't do it :-)

Prolific posting + repeating common forum knowledge = well known name

Definitely not a reason in itself to expect great material out of someone.

It's hard to get the balance right, you need to give away some value but not so much to attract the freebie seekers! It took me a while to get it right for my list but I think I have it pretty good now!
