Domaineering: How to MONETIZE my domain names/websites?

Profile picture of the author goriggs by goriggs Posted: 10/16/2013
Hey guys. I posted a thread about a domain name I was trying to sell, and was told that sites have to be monetized in order to be worth anything. So, I would like to know if any of my other domain names would be worth developing. And if so, what is the best ways to monetize it, to make it profitable for me, or to sell?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! :-)

I'm not sure that I agree with whoever told you that. There are plenty of domain buyers and sellers who never go to the trouble of building out a site. You probably just need to find different places to post your domains.

Which of course brings up the question where? Zach Booker did a WSO a month or two ago about domaining...it's worth picking up if you want to increase your chances of getting good money for these domains.

    Good luck!

I do not think that you have to build an entire website, too, to be able to sell it. Other domain names manage to be sold to very high prices just by being good domain names. By the way, among the list that you have posted, 50items is the catchiest for me. Good luck in selling those domain names!

Domain flipping and website flipping are two entirely different things. Most people confuse the two and will tell you it has to be making money or has to have PR or traffic or backlinks. NONE of that is necessary when just flipping the domain name. I've been doing it for 10+ years and virtually all of the domains I've sold are "raw". Just the domain name itself.

That being said, if you want to take the time to develop the domain into a website and get it making money, you will be able to tap that market looking for established websites.

You can put ads on them and let it earn for at least 2 or 3 months.

What you mentioned was that you were trying to sell a domain name. So, I made my assumption. Coming up with an interesting and brandable domain name with a high-ranking keyword can already help you sell it at a high price. And yes, selling a website is a different story.

Why don't you install wordpress and publish articles from article directories and promote it on social networks. Original articles are best but if you don't want to invest time and money in writing articles, free articles from article directories will do.

For domain flipping, ur domain name has to be catchy and a high cpc keyword. You can try domain parking too.

    Hi,

Can you gentlemen and ladies list here where you list your domains for free to sell them and where you get free appraisals ?
I don't mind paying commissions on sales to the site but don't want to pay anything if it doesn't sell like listing fees regardless of the sale.

I haven't seen a free appraisal service yet that was of any real value.

In my humble opinion, most of these scripts lead you to think that your domain is worth way more than you'll actually ever get.

    I hope you have success.

The truth is you do not really have to create an entire website. You can surely sell a domain name that is good. Having a catchy domain name is already an edge. The only thing that makes an entire website more profitable is due to the fact that it already has its own traffic. Nonetheless, you wouldn't want to bother yourself by promoting a website that you will sell in the near future.

I half agree 100% with this first statement, but only half agree with the second. Most domains I've sold for hundreds or thousands of dollars were appraised at practically nothing. Others were appraised at MUCH higher than reasonable. The bottom line is, an automated appraisal, no matter how sophisticated, just can't reason like a potential buyer.

Well, thank you so much everyone! I was about to try to sell FightsDepot.com on Flippa, but I learned that I can't sell a website that has adult content, so now I'm back at square one with that one. Hopefully I can sell one soon though. I'm keeping the faith. :-)

I looked at your domains, and the only one that looks like it might, and I mean might, make you $20.00 is collegegiveaway. The rest are just run of the mill and would not spark interest in anyone.

If I were you I would concentrate on the 50items domain and build a nice amazon or use a combination of affiliate networks and do something with it. If you put the work into it you could have a profitable site in 6-12 months especially if you use it along with pinterest. Then you could either enjoy the monthly income or sell it for a nice profit
