Anyone know how to automatically create linebreaks for plain text emails?

Hello,

AWeber has a feature with their plain text emails where they will automatically create linebreaks in the plaintext versions of your emails so that the width of your plaintext emails is constrained.

That works pretty well, however I am looking for a solution for how to do the same thing without using AWeber.

Let's say for example that I want to create a plaintext email that has linebreaks so that the lines are no more than 100 characters wide.

I found some online software that almost does what I want, the problem with it is that it isn't "smart" enough to know not to break lines in the middle of a word. The other problem with it is that it gets rid of all of the paragraph spacing. (You can see that software at: Add/Remove Line Breaks)

So, does anyone know of a viable solution for this?

Thanks,

Aaron

Notepad++ has a feature that can rewrap text so that no line exceeds 72 characters.
Below is how it reformatted your original post.
As far as I can tell, the value 72 is a constant, not susceptible to user preference. That seems to be a stupid mistake, but there it is.

  • Mmm. So, your problems are solved and don't need a solution anymore ?
Do you think people by the thousands if not millions face this same problem and if I can program a solution tool then do you reckon I'd make heavy sales ?
If so, then I might aswell give it a go to build it.
I'm a student programmer but while just reading the lines of the original post, how to write the program codes were forming in my head in the background. I might be able to build this with a few lines of code but a lot of people must show interest in such a tool. If you guys can show me leads (links) where a lot of people are discussing this same problem and looking for solutions and I get convinced by reading these discussions that the tool would be handy to lots of people then I can give it a go to build it. Must be my worthwhile to build it. You know what I mean. Don't want to spend time building something only a handful of people would use.

Hi Million Dollar Idea Man, I like how you think.

I don't know how much of a demand there is for something like this.

But based on how little response this post got, my guess is that there isn't very much demand.

Have you done any additional research about demand since posting on here? If so, what did you find out?

    Aaron,

I've been using this program for a few years now that does what you want. I believe it's still available.

    [edit] Oh, it's free too.

Write it in word, then copy and paste. In Microsoft word you can set the right indent on the ruler to end your sentences where ever you want.

      Thanks Joseph.

That approach doesn't create line breaks though. It just wraps the text at the end of the line.

Notepad++ can do what I was looking for so I'm all set.

I use a shareware text editor called TextPad - TextPad - the text editor for Windows

It does exactly what you want, and has a few other features as well. As shareware you can use it for free for as long as you want, or pay a small fee to reward the developer.

I have been using it to write my newsletters (up to issue #1300 now) forever and despite having tried a few alternatives over the years have never seen the need to change. It just works.
