Hey guy's/gals,
As you can see, I am new here. If I can give you a quick back round here:
My site just went live about 4 weeks ago. It is an e-commerce site that sells "eco-friendly" clothing and bedding. My goal is to build into a long term sustainable business.
Ok, so here I am...already garnered some good info here in this forum over the last week or so. As a side note...I have vigorously studied seo for the last 5 months...so yes, I am now an expert. But seriously, I do fancy myself a pretty savvy seo guy...all things considered, you know, time in and all. I am pretty comfortable with my knowledge of "best practices" for onsite optimization and I'm way anal with my keyword research for my niche, so I'm good there. So I'm not a total neophyte.
Where I could use some input for anyone willing to give me a few minutes (which I would genuinely appreciate), is with the whole social marketing thing. Admitedlly, my knowledge and understanding of bookmarking, rss, pinging etc., sucks. No, I don't have a blog up on my e-commerce site yet but I will be getting that done poste haste.

What I have noticed about this forum...is that it appears that a large % of the members are doing the info thing or the affiliate thing...and that's cool, I know there is a lot of cabbage to be made there.
F.Y.I.- Yes, I purchased all of Angela's packets before even looking at one and yes, I purchased the 120 from Paul too. I also used Unique Article Wizard for a few weeks....I don't believe it is a good use of my time, as all my indexed links from them are on PR-0 domains, not just pr-0 pages. I think my next attempt will be Milan's article submission software....I feel it would be better to use it to submit to some higher quality, article directories. And yes, I have went through a whole bunch of "seo" software products...but have settled on a few that I am happy with.
Oh, and I wanted to post the Steve thread on that 300 gold whatever dealeo that he has, but I can't post in the wso yet. He talks about setting up different emails for the site's, even though someone already asked him about the I.P's and them being different ones for the different sites in his package, and Steve responded with "there different domains" It would seem to me that if you have to set up different emails for the site's, then they are owned by some big conglomerate and/or probably on the same I.P. block? If this is the case, I don't believe it to be the best use of my time.
Sorry guys/gals, allow me to get off my soapbox.
So, my question for some of you veterans is this: With my business model being what it is, how much of time and effort should I be putting into setting up the social stuff with the bookmarking and that whole deal? Remember, my goal is to build a site that does high 6 or possibly 7 figures, in a few years. I guess I'm saying that I want to be a "trusted", "authority" site in my niche, that has a pr5 or something of the like. So, do I get B.D., or do I go all the way and get SEnuke? I do spend a time reading seobook, seomoz, s.e.l., occam's razor etc., I just have not come across and/or read much on the whole social media marketing thing, so my knowledge in that area sucks, as I said. That being said, I do think that probably should be one of the tools in my arsenal, but I would really love to hear from some of you veterans with regard to how much effort and which tools you think I should use in that area?
Your time would be greatly appreciated.
Lastly, since I've already written a novel here, is a couple pet peeves of mine: And I don't mean to be condescending or arrogant, as I freely admit that I'm just a green-horn. 1. "Dude, my keyword has 500,000 sites for competition" I see this with guys that have been at this for a while. Shouldn't they know, and/or, shouldn't we be correcting them? It's 500,000 pages, Ya? ya! If I'm wrong, by all means...please come to Chicago and smack in the back of the head.
2. Same dude> "Dude, forget that keyword, its got like 1,000,000 competing sites"
I started out, like my 1st month, looking at that number. Then around my 2nd month, I started looking at how many intitle. Wait for it..............
3rd month, I'm a genius! I will look at, all: intitle inanchor, and to boot..I went out and found a free tool to do this with.
4th month, Wait a minute! If I get to the 1st page and I'm ranked say...#2 to #10, I'm only going to get like 3% to 12% click through for those searches. F&%K that, I need to be #1 for my keyword....hell, it only gets 42% click through but with those #'s, nothing else would be acceptable for me. So, I guess what I'm saying is: Shouldn't we be looking at the strengths of those sites that are #1 to #10?
2- keywords: A. has 300,000 competition and B. has 1000,000 competition.
Theoretically, B. could be easier to get the #1 spot, Ya? ya!
You don't know unless you break down the top 10 sites, right. And of course...we have software to do this for us, so? I'm sure its just me, sorry for the diatribe guys.
If you have read this far, thank you. If you have some advice or just want to let me know that I'm a jackass, that's cool too. Either way, thanks guys, I really do apprecaite it.
Doug
