How much is this tool worth?

Sorry for this, but I'm not familiar with the costs of programming and scripts etc..

I want to hire someone to create a script/tool that helps you to build very basic HTML pages. After that I would embed this to my site or create a specific page for that tool.

I will probably search around oDesk, but I don't want to get scammed? Any ideas of how much it would be worth or how much should I pay for that?

Thanks

Sounds like you want a "Easy site creator" this would be in the $1,000s but there are already pre built one just do some searching on google. its your best bet. you may even find a free one but its not going to be very good.

Thanks.. I thought it would be more or less 1k, so that's OK for me.

I checked for free ones, but they were pretty much gibberish

This is complex stuff, if you pay someone $1k , with you having low web development knowledge then it will be gibberish too.

If you want to create a good html page creator which creates good html code first you have to find a web developer who can be the project manager too.

It pretty much depends on how you define very basic. It'd be much easier to judge if you had a spec list on what you want the script to be able to do.

I have been a freelance programmer for a very long time and have done hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of work. I actually created (and sold) a system that did just this:

    Sales Page Engine
(note mods, this is no self promotion, I no longer own this site)

I sold this site for 5 figures, and that was after I made money from it on my own.
If I was going to develop it from scratch for someone the price would be in the 3-5K range.

    Hope that helps,
    Brett

the best advice I can give you when getting anything coded by others is to know EXACTLY what you want the tool to do from the get go. You might find someone who can create the tool for $1,000 but if you keep changing things along the way then it can start to become very expensive.

So I recommend spending a good amount of time mapping everything out exactly the way you want it BEFORE you start getting quotes. It will save you a lot of money and time in the longrun.

I'm talking from experience... I learnt this the hard way.

WillR gives great advice. Scope Creep can be costly and quite frankly a real pain.
