Paypal: Your payment has been sent. WTF?

Just got an email from paypal, saying my payment of $30 was sent to one Thoa Phan.
Who?
I logged into PP directly, no email link, and checked. Yep, $30 sent.
I've never heard of this email or name. I've searched my Yahoo mail, no results, apart from the PP email.
I hit the "dispute" button and explained I have no idea who this person is. PP have now frozen the account but I asked them to, so not complaining per se.
As far as I can tell my pooter is clean, Antivir finds no problems.
I'm somewhat puzzled, and obviously concerned. I've changed my password.

Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what was the end result?
Computer infection? Someone managed to brute-force crack my password? Hacked PP?
??
I want to check my bank account but I'm nervous of doing so now, in case I'm being keylogged or something.
Whatever's going on it's a pain in the ass.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. A payment of £12.95 was made to a guy I swore I had never heard of. It turned out to be an annual subscription for a product/service I had long since forgotten about and forgot to cancel.

Do an advanced search over the past two years on the name in your PP account and see if anything comes up.

I can't see anywhere for searching by name?

Ah, found it... Nope, no other records by name or email of this person apart from today.

I use Mailstore email archiving, for super speedy search. I've never sent or received an email to anyone with that name or address.

It's frustrating as heck. From what I can gather on the PP site, in the event of an unauthorised payment, why they'll huff, an puff and... not charge me.

Great. But in the meantime, how does someone make an unauthorised payment in the first place?

Why don't they say "in the event of someone hacking your account", as I can't see any other way such a thing could happen?

I had a designer send me an PP invoice once, for something they hadn't done yet (and never did, so I never paid it).

How does someone make an unauthorised payment? WTF?

Ah, Spud, didn't see your reply.

How did you find the keylogger?

Get a good Anti-Virus. Eset, Kaspersky and disable your internet, then do a full scan. It'll take a few hours to do the complete scan. Ring up Paypal and then ask for the last 20 IP logs or so. Do that and if you see a change in the IP, trace that IP by calling them again. Tell them to reverse the money and tell that your paypal was hacked. Hope this helped.

That program has saved me so many times over the last few years, I wouldn't be without it.

My pooter has now been scanned by Antivir, AVG and Avast, all say it's clean.

I can try Kasper or whatever it's called..

    *sigh*

One important question - can I RECEIVE payment with the account restricted? I have 2 incoming salesletter jobs and I don't even know if I can take their deposit?

    Feck's arses.
