Attracting Traffic To Health Articles

8 replies
Hey guys,

I've run a few websites in my time but they've all been gaming related, as such none of my previous techniques or methods work with my new venture.

I was wondering if some of you would be kind enough to suggest some ideas/methods that I can use to get people reading high-quality articles surrounding the health niche?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Are these articles on your own website, or on something like Ezinearticles.com?

      The articles are on the actual websites. Currently I literally just write the article, ping and then place links on related websites such as Yahoo Q&A. It's all manual, nothing blackhat involved.

      I understand the appeal for Ezine for backlinks but does traffic actually come from the articles?

        One hopes not! An article directory is simply a stepping-stone to try to achieve additional passive syndication of one's articles. Articles don't go into article directories for our potential customers to read them there. For all the reasons explained in this post, no article marketer would want that to happen. They're there to be found by publishers.

        This thread explains more: How do Article Directories work?

        Since Google's Panda updates, article directory backlinks are worthless. That's actually a good thing, not a bad thing, for article marketers: it's come about because of the decimation of article directories' SEO. As so many of us have been explaining here, over the last couple of years, Google has been very helpful to article marketers by making sure, with all those Panda updates, that we can now use Ezine Articles (for example) for its intended purpose without the risk that our potential customers (whom we want to come directly to our own sites, not go to an article directory where we lose most of them!) will ever see those copies.

        The important things to know (about articles, in this context) are ...

        (i) Publishing articles just on your own site isn't really a traffic-generation plan at all: all that can ever bring you is some gradual, eventual search-engine traffic that's typically very low-performing, unresponsive and poor quality anyway, and in the overall scheme of things "generally not worth talking about". Using articles for marketing is about taking your content to the places where the targeted traffic you want to attract is already looking/reading/visiting (after publishing it first yourself, to secure the initial indexation-rights, of course);

        (ii) Article marketing isn't about how many articles you have: it's about who reads them (relates to the point above, and to other considerations);

        (iii) "Good content" is content that publishers in your niche, who already have access to the traffic you want to attract, want and choose to share with their own subscribers, readers and visitors (either by publishing it or linking to it). That's a very simple, practical definition of "good content", but I think it's a useful one because it relates directly to how content produces income. Or, to word it the other way round (same thing, really), content that directly produces income is content that publishers in your niche, who already have access to the traffic you want to attract, want and choose to share with their own subscribers, readers and visitors.

        If it helps, here's a one-post overview of "how article marketing works" (and it's not about using article directories or web 2.0 sites!): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5035794

    What kind of methods are you currently trying to drive traffic to your articles? I would be posting my articles on as many article sites as possible, doing YouTube videos with a link pointing to the article, etc.

    Ezine Articles gets a lot of traffic and is the "go-to" when it comes to article writing.

    How about forum marketing?

    Search heath forums at Google. Promote your website which contains the articles to forums through signature box. Don't forget to read the rules to remain at the forums.

    I'm asuming you are looking for direct traffic, not just search engine traffic which can take months to start rolling in. If that's the case, you might try establishing yourself as a health related expert on niche health forums. If people trust your opinion, they are more likely to visit your website for info on related topics.

    Stir up some controversy over a health related issue on Facebook and Twitter. Challenge popular opinions or long held beliefs about health and nutrition related issues. People love controversy online. This will get plenty of attention for you.
