Can I promote my own product on clickbank?

This may be a really, really stupid question, but can I do that? The reason I want to do this is because I want to use their order form instead of stupid Paypal. So what I'm asking is can I simply use my own affiliate link to promote my own product and then make 100% of the sale? Thanks.

Yes, you can. If you go to their website they will walk you through it, depending on if you're an author, expert, whatever, etc.

Not a great idea. Then you won’t be paid until ClickBank sends you the money. Plus they hold back money for refunds when you start out. It’s your product; you should be paid as the sales come in. Stick with PayPal and get yourself download protection software that works with PayPal API... The only benefit for ClickBank is if you want affiliates or don't want to deal with refunds and such. It isn't a stupid question at all.

The answer is yes - you can do it in either of two ways: either acting as your own affiliate, or by having the sales processed without an affiliate at all. You'll get the same amount of money either way.

What you shouldn't do is what's suggested in the post immediately above, though: that could be a terribly expensive mistake to make, and I'm extremely surprised to see it suggested here. No serious, pro-affiliate will be willing to send traffic to a ClickBank offer which has an alternate "vendor's PayPal-only sales page" elsewhere, because that would constitute a serious "payment leak" from the affiliate's perspective. Very few people buy a ClickBank product at their first visit to a sales page, and if affiliates are aware that our "cookied prospects" might (for example, following a Google search for the product) return to a different sales page and pay in a way in which our cookie doesn't earn us anything, naturally enough we'll simply promote someone else's product instead, which doesn't give us that problem.

The few affiliates this mistake might cost you would be very likely to be the ones who'd make the most sales (because they're the more experienced ones who appreciate this point - fewer than 5% of affiliates typically make more than 95% of the affiliate-referred sales!).

You can ... or you can just "not use an affiliate link at all" and still make 100% of the sale. But using your own affiliate-link might be more profitable for you if you think any of your own prospective customers might already be cookied by another affiliate.

For these reasons, it's actually common for ClickBank vendors to promote their own products as their own affiliates: it makes little sense to lose the best affiliates unnecessarily over a "payment leak".

The individual that asked the question isn't using Clickbank for affiliates he wants to use it only for just himself. To use "his" affiliate link "only". No affiliates! This is why I suggested that he not use Clickbank. I never said use Clickbank and PayPal.... I said only Paypal. The only reason you want Clickbank in the first place is for affiliates.

        I see ... I see ...

I didn't take him as meaning that at all. I assumed he was asking about using it for himself in addition to having affiliates, as I haven't often heard of people using ClickBank without wanting affiliates?!

However, strictly speaking, that was just my assumption, I suppose - and I certainly owe (and offer) you an apology, if you're right about that!

You wouldn't promote your product as an affiliate. You would just promote your product as a vendor by sending people straight to your salespage.

As for wanting to use Clickbank "instead of stupid Paypal", I think you will find conversions on a Paypal order form higher than those on a Clickbank order form, just because way more people know of and trust Paypal. So if that's the only reason you want to move to Clickbank, then you may want to reconsider. Also keep in mind the Clickbank fees are much higher than the typical Paypal fees. 7.5% + $1 compared to 2-3%.

One reason why you might want to promote as an affiliate is to be able to track your promotions. Note that you would need a separate (affiliate) account to do this.

You would be much better off using your own tracking platform though and tracking things yourself rather than relying on Clickbank for those stats.

You may also find the reverse. If you really wanted to know for a particular product & traffic source you'd have to split test. Some people wouldn't touch people wouldn't paypal with a 10 foot pole, and at the other extreme, there are some less internet savvy people who think they need a paypal account to pay via paypal, and prefer a straight credit card payment form which clickbank gives.

Another advantage of clickbank is the anti-fraud protections, which can help protect vendors from fraudulent sales, and from the risk of getting their own personal paypal account mixed up in a fraud dispute.

Thanks for clarifying, Jared. You really do need not to have an alternate sales/order-page elsewhere, then, for the reasons explained above!
