Looking for a new direction

Hi all - My name is Mike I am new to this site and would like to congratulate you on you site and be grateful your help and advice please.
I have a problem - recently I was working in the IT industry in London City supporting desktop software for a large consultant company. This has lasted 2 years and previously worked other sites as a contractor after redundancy in 2008. As this was the time of the credit crunch I had a frustrating time finding a new job. During this time I decided In was going to investigate the wonderful world of IM. At this time I signed up for a three day seminar and eventually spent some large amount of money as a pupil for David Cavanagh who was going to teach me how to setup an internet business. To cut a story short nothing ever happened with this. Experiencing problems with communication

Like many I have bought several products costing a lot of money invested from my savings but I have never done anything with it. I suppose it is easier to work for someone else. I have tried to work for myself, improving my life on several occasions in my life. One time as a mortgage advisor and selling environmental products including a great product called dry wash n guard ( first waterless car cleaning product)
I have a real dilemma -most companies will employ 20 year old graduates and at 46 (although not over the hill and still young at heart) and I do not have a degree either. I am finding it more difficult to find work in this environment. I may not have a degree but I do pride myself getting to the skill level I have reached without a degree. Okay. A degree is not everything, but my academic skills are not great either.

After many years in the IT industry and the current situation I find myself in - I feel I owe this to myself to start being fare to myself and to do my best to work at becoming a member of the IM world. I appreciate it will not be easy and much work to be done.
My problem here - I feel guilty about working for myself - not sure why. Has anyone felt this?
I feel a bit lost and confused and of course it would be easy to fall for every opportunity out there.
I do not want to work in MLM or something like that - receiving payments for finding others. I have managed to fall in that trap before and to be honest I felt it difficult to talk about the products although I am a fairly chatty person - maybe I did not believe in the products.
I just want to work for myself offering a good product earning at least £100 a day (for the moment anyway). I would be happy to do some IT work but I need to have a new direction in life.
Recently bought a product from Ron Rule. Very informative but I do feel for the meantime what he is offering is part of the big picture. I am currently working on DIY projects in my property and have written a few books on this (not published) thanks to David Anderson's one day seminar . I am creative and do not mind writing as I am sure you can see and would hope what I have written is not boring and informative.
My real passion is inventions and innovation. Unfortunately I have two inventions which I tried to market - the first I was ripped off ( lack of internet research in those days) secondly the company believed there was no market for it although they did not really understand the product and the research information sent was nothing like the product I was trying to promote.
I realise I have gone on a bit and I apologise for that. To round up - does anyone have advice to help me move on to IM?
did anyone have guilty feelings not working for someone else?
Is it possible to make £100 / $161 per day?
Any advice would be welcome and maybe a meet up with like minded IM people like me.

Thanks for your time
Mike

      Hi Mike,
My advice to you if you're wanting to really get started with Internet Marketing is to learn everything you can about list building. I can tell from your post that you like to write and you're good at it, this will make it easier for you when you're creating your emails to send out to your list. Learn all you can about how to create the list, how to monetize it, and tips from people who already have built a list.

And you will definitely be able to make the amount of money you're asking about $161 per day with a good list that you're built yourself.

I've never felt guilty about pursing an income from Internet Marketing!

Enjoy your time here at WF!

I'm sure that it took you a couple years to become good at IT,
so why would you think it different for making money online.

Your experience has been repeated a thousand times for all those
who are making a decent income online right now. Maybe it's
a little tougher than when I started over 10 years ago, but there
is a learning curve, which also includes the MINDSET shift from
working for someone to working for yourself.

I wouldn't give up too quickly if I were you.

Seeing that you have real passion with inventions and innovation, I would recommend looking into creating (or starting out private labeling) a real product and selling it on the Amazon Marketplace.

I've been in the IM world since 2001, and when I dabbed around on Amazon several months ago for the first time, I was blown away with how easy it was to get a product private labeled, on the marketplace, optimized to rank high for terms people are already search for (just like SEO, but for the Amazon Marketplace) and sit back while sales come in organically after your initial blast of marketing and optimization.

    Hey Mike,

Welcome to WF! Your goal of per day is VERY reasonable and you can achieve it with enough hard work.

As far as guilt about working / not working for someone else, this is not "right" or "wrong" in any way. That feeling is the result of childhood and societal conditional and you can shed that belief like any other false belief.

Good luck and glad to have you on board!

I suggest that if you want to get started in Internet marketing, you begin by learning how to make a list. This is something that you have to master, actually. Also, with the passion that you say you have, consider selling your products. With good marketing strategies, you will definitely be successful in this business.
