Advice on creating free digital product welcomed!

I am excited because I just created a free product I can give away to potential clients on a website I am working on. It is nothing fancy but a digital download.

Right now, I created it using OpenOffice. It is a spreadsheet so there are formulas involved.

My question is this, what is the best way to give this product away? Do I give it away as a PDF or as an Excel/OpenOffice template?

If I give it away as a PDF, is there any alternative to Adobe to save the fields where the user can enter their own numbers?

Any thoughts/suggestions to point me in the right direction will help.
