When hosting a HG-bot domain at HG...

Hi ...
I'm trying to help someone out, and realize I don't have the answer to this question -- and it doesn't seem to be terribly easy for me to come by, short of me buying a domain fromm and hosting it on hostgator.

The person who I am attempting to help out purchased his domain 2 days ago, but the domain has not propagated -- which should have, by now.

When you buy the domain from hostgator -- is there any DNS setup that the owner needs to do -- or should that be automatically taken care of by hostgator (or any other hosting company that sells you the domain as well as the hosting -- for that matter.)

IOW -- is the propagation problem more likely due to something that needs to be addressed by HG support, or is it something that the domain owner needs to do (set up nameservers/DNS).

Since I never buy my domains from my hosting companies -- it's not a situation I've dealt with before. And I'd like to help this person get this situation resolved.

Thanks very much for any insight.
