Want to Creat a Blog site

I'm looking at starting my own travel blog site. I'm an affiliate with a travel website and want to post their affiliate links on my blog page. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can post ads on the popular blog sites such as Blogger, Tumblr etc. I read their terms but some of them I don't understand because they like to use fancy words and make it complicated. Or do I have to create my own page and get hosting and all that stuff? Or is there a cheap alternative where you can get your own template to design? I was with Empower Network but I don't want to pay $25/month to blog when there are free alternatives. Thanks

Yeah the last time I remembered those free blogging platforms doesn't allow anyone to sell stuff using them.

So yeah you have to get hosting and all that good stuff. Its better to spend the cash now and build you business on a stable ground then to go ahead building up your business and then they find out what you have been doing and then they put an end to your whole business.

Lets say you use one of these free platforms and you begin to make a reasonable amount of cash in your venture. Now blogger finds out and cut you down. Guess what your whole business goes down the drain and you have to start all over again. Trust me you don't want that.

So go to bluehost and buy a domain name from namescheap believe me its worth it.

    Peace.

Your best bet in my personal opinion, is to get a wordpress self hosted blog .. yes it will cost you for domain name registration and hosting, but it will be yours to do what you want with and promote what you want.

There are thousands of free themes you can choose from to tailor your site to how you want it to look.

Nobody can take it away from you.

Please do not get involved with Empower Network. Do some research.

Meh, I remember back when some people thought Empower Network was everything because if you made one sale it was free, and you got paid decently for every sale after that, but now they seem to have died out. I'm glad about that, don't get involved with them.

Better you get your own domain and hosting. Those free alternatives can turn down your site anytime.

      Hi,

IMHO the best bet is to spend a little on hosting and a domain name. There are multiple advantages of these

      1) You own the blog/website and are not at the mercy of the platforms to change their mind about how they want to showcase your site. Sometimes even they might decide to take steps that might ruin your years of hard work.

      2) When you do the marketing you will be doing it for your own web property rather than the free platforms. This can be a huge difference in the long run.

      3) You decide what monetization type you want to go with and not the platform owner.

There are a lot more but those I guess are compelling enough to go your own blog route.

      Cheers

At most a good domain name would be around $6.00-$10.00 depending on TLD extension. And, even the cheapest hosting could be as little as $1.00. No reason to pay more to just host a few pages with affiliate links. But this tiny investment will pay off really big in terms of search engine traffic and professional image.

Get your own hosting and create a wordpress blog with ads at appropriate spaces.

Apart from that you can also post some excerpts on blogger, tumblr or any other blogging platform which will then link the full post on your self hosted blog and yes you can post ur affiliate links on blogger. Google do not want porn blogger to make money of their platform, others I think are fine.

Thanks for the responses. I already own a domain and have hosting (from a previous page I use to run). I now need to look into how to design my page.

You must be ready to spend a little for you to successfully start your own blog site. It won’t hurt to pay a little for a good start and you know that a team of experts will be able to help you with it.

You can find a lot of legit blog hosting companies in the internet. However, you need to do a keen research so you can get through. Good luck!

I agree with everyone who has advised you to use a self-hosted wordpress blog. If you're serious about making money online, it's well worth investing in yourself and your business. You can get started for under $10 for hosting including a domain name if you do some research.

I've sold stuff in an old blogger sidebar but I wouldn't suggest it. Get yourself a self hosted Wordpress blog, you can get it set up really cheaply and you'll be loads better off for it.

    Tazman,

As others have suggested, a WordPress blog on your own hosting account may be the best alternative. In addition, there are a lot of travel-related WP themes that will make your site look very niche specific.

No one has mentioned the fact that you need your own web site so you can start an email list of subscribers in the travel industry. Your conversions (sales per visitor) will be higher when you market to your list as compared to 1st time visitors to you site.

One final suggestion: the travel market is huge and quite competitive. Make sure you differentiate what you offer from all the other more generic travel blogs . . . there are a million of them. Pick a particular travel niche and focus exclusively on that. It will be easier to target your marketing so that it matches up with specific offers your present.

The best of luck in your new niche.

When you are starting any type of online business you will have to have visitors to your website we call that traffic. Visitors buy from our websites, click our ads, subscribe to our list, etc. Without traffic you will not make much to any money at all. So, focus on a "plan" and make sure you make "traffic" a very big part of your overall "marketing plan".

It will be very difficult to compete with the most popular travel blogs and the travel industry as a whole since there are already many established travel blogs in the travel industry. It would be in a beginners best interest to focus on geographical locations or specific events in specific geo locations for a few main reasons:

    1) Easier to target specific people and companies. This would be your target market, i.e. visitors/traffic.

    2) Later, you can branch out into other geo locations with lessons already learned.

Offer your visitors more than the other travel blogs such as:

    1) Locations you have visited yourself passing on first-hand experience to your visitors.

    2) Offer something for everyone, such as lists of glutton free restaurants, specialty dive shops, etc.

    Traffic, Traffic, Traffic!

Also, search this forum for tips from some of the very best people in the travel industry.

    Jeffery 100% :-)

I would advise you to build your own blog from scratch and get a self-hosted blog not those free ones like blogger, tumblr etc...

The best advise I can give you is use your own blog platform like wordpress and use hosting. This way you have full control of how you want to monetize your website.
    Get a website domain
    Get hosting
    Install wordpress.
    Then start blogging.

If you go with the free one, then once you want to put ads and stuff they won't allow it and it will be a headache to transfer the whole thing over!
    Good luck:p
